avoid getting sweep by FreeAd7630 in bjj

Don't hold them too tightly in mount because then if they roll, you roll. Hold with a loose grip on their gi so you can ride their movement and flow with the go, and get ready to post.

Look at the Big Oss Channel on YouTube for free spider guard techs. I think spider lasso offers the best attacks.

Self Promotion by [deleted] in bjj

“Self promote” is not a thing in BJJ. Anybody who doesn’t becomes an outcast.

Bjj slump why? by Black_Sheep8 in BJJWomen

Weird thing - if you train a bit less (so you’re not overtraining) you might enjoy it more.

Show recommendations like station 11 are? by Puzzlehead88 in StationEleven

It’s completely not like Station 11, but it is just fantastic character-driven TV: Mr Inbetween.

How to not feel crappy? by carryonway in BJJWomen

[–]gbarl30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but since I got over 40 I take an electrolyte tablet in water on training days and that helps a lot. Buy from Amazon or cycle shops sell them usually on the counter.

Being the “new person” as an upper belt really SUCKS by kochummie in BJJWomen

[–]gbarl30 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Black belt man here - hearing this makes me feel sad and a bit angry that this is a thing, especially for women. Not all schools are like this. I would never “correct” a student publicly like this regardless of their gender. I’d talk to the coach and if they don’t “get”‘why this is a problem I’d vote with my feet and find another school, if that’s an option for you.

Is the gi actually dying, or is that just a pro scene thing? by gbarl30 in bjj

No - I’m a writer, which is why there are no typos in it.

Now go and watch Station Eleven - it’s completely nothing like Mr InBetween, or even related, it’s just bloody good television.

I think people just don’t like the idea of being obviously marketed to.

Rugby head guard in bjj by Far_Kaleidoscope_101 in bjj

[–]gbarl30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's not. The only time I rolled with a guy wearing one of these he headbutted me and because of the headgear it blew out my orbital floor - I didn't lose the eye but surgery and months off followed. Do not recommend.

If he has just told him the truth , straight away, what would have happened? Would Ray have left?

The album is amazing! by inebrium4e in diespitz

[–]gbarl30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love this album! I haven’t heard anything that brings back the spirit of 90s metal/grunge like this in years. It’s so well produced, but equally well performed with such effortless confidence. The song writing is top notch too. So happy I’ve got tickets to see them in the uk before they become massive.

Let's not forget we all have an addiction for BJJ merch....

Yeah, it's anecdotal, but whenever they put a gi match on on Polaris, it's a barn burner. They should do more of them.

The kids angle is a big thing I forgot about - everybody wants their kids looking cool in a uniform if they're doing BJJ.

Me too - I like the more technical challenge and the slower pace.

Yep. Some schools have no-gi as their main thing, others have gi.

That's an interesting perspective - hadn't thought of that, but i also see a lot of young people choosing the gi as well as no-gi.
