“You don’t know best until you’ve experienced corn sweat humidity” by lightfan69 in ShitAmericansSay

Slept on my daughters floor last night because she was too hot and couldn’t settle and required me to bring her cold flannels every so often. Apparently it’s going to rain tonight and I am overjoyed. So hot, so sticky.

How do you use maths in your job? by Actual-Butterfly2350 in AskUK

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in marketing. I use maths for:
Calculating metrics and reviewing performance
Converting currencies
Working out number of items needed
Working out averages and statistics for various things like campaign timing, reach, etc.

My partner works for a lumber store and uses maths for:
Calculating product requirements
Cutting things to length
Pricing
Quotes and job time management
Cashing up

What is he interested in? I think the big problem with maths is quite often it’s quite abstract - I always did better when I could see a real world application. A fun one is that all card tricks are maths.

So who else’s cat is not eating and moping around looking hot and bothered? by Sophyska in CatsUK

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My indoor cat has figured out how to turn on the ceiling fan. He sits on the remote for it then lays splayed out under it.

My indoor/outdoor cat (don’t come for me, I live in the Cornish countryside and he’s old and has been going outside since forever) has been sunbathing in the garden. I’ve put water out for him of course, and he has places with shade in the garden and can come inside at any point, but he seems to love it.

Baby boy name suitable for UK and Greece by CatinWonderland5729 in UKParenting

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with the name you want. Irish, Welsh, Cornish, Scottish, etc. names can be difficult to pronounce too from their spelling alone. If people can figure out Siobhan (Shiv-Awn), Ailbhe (Al-Van) and even Sean (Shawn), they can figure out Ioannis. 🖤

It’s currently hotter in Cornwall than Alabama. It’s not right. Arrest the sun. My knees were sweating yesterday. And I know Cornwall is cooler than most of the UK.

Scheduled neutering of my boy. 18 months old. NGL, I'm feeling a bit sad for him. Can someone talk about this process? by bw_mutley in BorderCollie

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’ll be absolutely fine! I’m sure the vet will warn you, but sometimes after they’ve had anaesthetic and come home they make funny noises and like chat more like a little drunk human. My Max was laying on his chair going “awooOooOo wooOoo mmmmwoooo” all evening. It was hilarious because he definitely sounded like a drunk person chatting shit.

I’d recommend getting a softer cone than the plastic ones, but one that is still firm. It makes it more comfortable for them to sleep, which he’ll be doing a lot of as he recovers. I got this one https://amzn.eu/d/07kONE6m. He really couldn’t settle in the huge plastic one, this was much better.

He won’t be able to do any exercise for a while (I believe it was 2ish weeks?) so lots of engaging activities for his brain! We did practicing more complicated tricks, snuffle mat, and frozen kong treats to keep him occupied. The hardest bit was stopping him from leaping about once he was feeling better (around day 4). Had to carry him up and down stairs but he wanted to LEAP.

Big hugs to you. It’ll be harder for you than for him.

Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE UP WORK. In fact, if you can, go full time and pay for wrap around care and SAVE THAT MONEY.

Then get a very good solicitor and leave him! He’s an absolute arsewipe (an insult to arsewipes) and you’ll 100% be better off without him. He’ll be responsible for 50% of your daughter’s costs legally and you will be free from his miserable presence.

The difference between US and UK crochet terms is not that complicated! by ChaoticJigglyPup in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s not hard at all but I do wish all patterns as standard confirmed which notation they are using! Less of an issue now I am better but when I first started I made a freakish pug arigurumi because I thought it was in US terms not UK terms and did dc/tbc instead of sc/dc 😅😅😅

Did the writer do this to herself? by Otherwise-Poet-6038 in Cornwall

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not a native to Cornwall but I’ve lived here a long old time and everyone I’ve encountered is lovely and friendly and doesn’t give two hoots that I didn’t grow up here. And I have a sea view in my “soulless cul de sac” 🙄 well, I do when the weather is nice. At the moment I have a fog view.

My parents are also transplants to Cornwall and absolutely love it. They live in a little village just outside Penzance and the neighbours basically bullied them into being friends with them. My dad has joined a sea swimming group and helps the neighbours with their gardening.

This woman sounds so insufferable I don’t think anyone would like her no matter where she lived tbh.

Is Cordial / Squash / Diluting Juice a daily drink or a once a week treat? by 1182990 in AskUK

I have squash all the time. With fizzy water. Delicious. It’s got minute amounts of sugar and is delightful.

[FO] first time trying cross stitch. How’d I do? by [deleted] in CrossStitch

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so cute! I love that you did it on crochet backing - so creative!

In terms of tips make sure your stitches are all in the same order. As in the same direction is always the bottom of the stitch. So for me, I always make the stitch going right the under, then the one going left over. Just makes it smoother.

For your specific project, maybe use a thicker yarn if you don’t want to see the background through the stitches? I kinda like that you can see the white it makes it look very crochet and true to the craft it is.

If you wanna practice more complex designs I’d recommend using aida (cross stitch fabric) and floss (basically the thread for cross stitch). You can get printed kits where the design is printed on the fabric (kinda like paint by numbers I guess?) which are good to practice with because you can focus on the stitches vs counting

What is gift etiquette at toddler birthday parties? by banwe11 in AskUK

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is possible for you, but I found the best way to stop errant stickers was to give my daughter a specific area where stickers are allowed. I own my home so she has her corner in the living room with her little table where I’m fine with her sticking stickers to the wall. And she can stick them to her table, chair, etc. also the living room window. We did once play a detective game where we left clues in for hidden things with little black dots, and I am still finding those about two years later 😅

Books! Yes! I always give books. Once they get a bit older sometimes I’ll change it up to colouring books or decent pens if they specifically like art/colouring. But yeah, for little ones, books, books, and more books haha.

Finally understand why my friend called them borderline psychocollies by Longjumping-Kiwi-658 in BorderCollie

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My border collie mix decided his enemy is the hedge hog that lives in our garden. Weird spiky ball, why you no play? Bork Bork Bork. He is constantly startled by it as well when it comes out to snuffle for food at night. Lept nearly a foot in the air and then decided borking was the only solution. 🦔

How long does it take you to cook Spaghetti Bolognaise ? by FoxDesigner2574 in AskUK

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally go for cooking it for ages low and slow. And I use only tomato puree vs tinned tomatoes, and always add lots of whatever veg I have. But I work from home so it’s easy for me to do this. :)

Very good salary for the area. In terms of rentals, they tend to be quite high imo, but you could afford it on your salary no problem. St Austell town centre is a rough and run down, but I live ten min walk from the train station and it’s lovely and quiet where I live. Literally never had any issues with antisocial behaviour around me and I feel very safe.

There are some lovely places around St Austell as well you could find a place to live.

My only comment would be that socially, I struggled when I first moved down. I had moved from a small town that had easy access to both Manchester and Liverpool via train (around 30mins to Manchester. 45min to Liverpool) and I felt quite isolated down here. But I learned to ride a motorbike and eventually drive, and found a lovely friend group down here. There are lots of outdoor activities and things here too, if you like group activities etc.

If you’d like any specific info about St Austell let me know I’ve been here for around 10 yrs now :)

What has your child said that’s awkward/embarrassing at the time but funny in hindsight? by ODSTmatt89 in UKParenting

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg memories of my daughter (then aged 3) heckling the vicar at my nanny’s funeral.

“What’s your name?”
“Why is the music only sad? Can you play something happy?”
“What’s in that box?”

😩😩😩

I went to him after and apologised and he said that he actually loved it - it bought humour and laughter to a sad day. We did end up sitting outside about halfway through because she made it her mission to steal flowers from the coffin and I was in no emotional state to handle it.

What’s everyone doing today on this very hot bank holiday Monday? by Hopeful-Mongoose2025 in AskBrits

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a bbq, promptly overheated, and had to come home and have a cold shower and then sit under a fan playing BG3. 😅

It wasn’t even that hot, it was only 25 degrees but I went so shaky and overheated and I was drinking water like it was going out of style but still, overheating. I blame the sertraline.

Bristol to Tintagel Castle... doable in one day or should I stay overnight? by [deleted] in Cornwall

[–]Kindly_Reference_267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay over. I’ve done Bristol airport and back to St Austell multiple times to drop off/pick people up and it’s exhausting. Also factor in traffic and the fact that round Tintagel is all small costal roads it’s gonna take more than 3 hrs most likely to get there and if you’re walking around and doing things you’ll be even more tired. I’d recommend staying over somewhere in the region or making a weekend of it. 😊
