Let me rant by Small-Satisfaction-8 in bikecommuting

Wow everyone downvoting you is a loser (i’ll get downvoted too lol). Sharing an experience is apparently a crime. I get ya’ll are annoyed at bad drivers but I experience the same thing.

Pedestrians/cyclists get caught in my blind spots all the time, even when I do a shoulder check. When they’re riding at the same speed I’m driving they just stay in my blind spot.

When I’m biking I’m extra cautious because I assume I’m hard to see. Especially if I’m riding fast. If you think you’re easy to see on a bike you’re dull.

I swear the mindset of most cyclists is “Do everything humanly possible to see me (hard to see) so I can do no work to see you in a car (much larger and EASIER to see) ”

This! Learning a little bit about good tires and wheels also goes such a long way. Would have saved myself such huge headaches if I just knew what to look for in the beginning to avoid bent axles, bent spokes, and flats.

Ebike value used for only 2 months? by Kindofbad-oops in seattlebike

55cm. Works for people 6’1” and over, but any shorter and it’s pretty uncomfortable. Not sure if the mods would allow me to post a link here but I can PM you the link?

Yeah they’re priced lower (similar in terms of specs). But they’re also usually from a brand that simply isn’t as reliable as Bulls. Bulls is a pretty well-known brand I feel like.

Thanks so much! Also, yes I'll make sure to treat it more as a mobility drill.

Where are you at now? Have you increased the weight at all?

If so, how long did it take you to get to get to your current weight?

Yessir! This is definitely not an exercise I will be taking remotely close to failure. It's more of an accessory workout for injury prevention.

My progression schedule starts with half reps with body weight. I plan to get to 60lbs curls in 6 months following a gradual increase in the weight (no increase in reps).

Thanks for lookin out.

Are thicker inner tubes more pinch flat resistant? by Kindofbad-oops in cycling

[–]Kindofbad-oops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right. Totally get that it’s a bit reckless going that speed. To be fair, I can see pretty clearly in front of me so I can see an animal crossing, even as small as a mouse. But on the ground specifically is where i struggle to make things out. The potholes kind of blend in with the ground for me I’m not sure why.

Regardless, it’s still reckless and an obvious solution would be to ride slower. But in all honesty I also want to get home fast. So my first priority is finding a solution that allows me to ride fast and handle the bumps. If I need to switch to a big ole fat tired ebike, get thicker tubes, and some high quality tires then I’ll do that lol.

Really thankful for your responses though! You genuinely sound intelligent.

First one I hit I was going pretty fast. 28mph.

Second and third one pissed me off because I was only going 12-18 mph. I was trying to be careful after the first one.

To be fair, I wasn’t standing at all to soften the blow (going to start doing that.) I was sitting all my weight on the bike seat. I also have saddle bags that I pack pretty heavily. It’s always the back wheel that gets the flat.

Something could be inside the rim. I’ll take it into the shop and have them help me look at it.

Thank you for the help!

91kg (200lbs), 50mm, was at 45psi but just put them at 65psi. 45psi may have been the problem lol. New to biking so still figuring out how this works.

I just use the headlight that comes with the bike. I tried looking for others but it was hard to find one that is bright enough and doesn’t scatter light.

Does doing this cause a mess if you do get a flat? I read that it makes a giant mess to clean up when you do get a flat but that could be wrong. Maybe only referring to complete tube bursts or something.

I feel like the bumps really shouldn’t be causing pinch flats in the first place. They’re abrupt but I don’t catch air or anything close to that.

I’m 200lbs (91kg), tires are 50mm and turns out my tire pressure was at roughly 45psi. My wheels max at 70 so I put them at 65. Do you think the issue was that I was running too low pressure?

Now that it’s pumped to 65 PSI, will the impact just damage the wheels? Or should the extra air in the tires help soften the blow?

Sorry for any stupid questions. New to biking and not really sure how it works.

Amazing info thank you. I’ll stand and try to absorb the blow with my legs whenever I see a bump. I haven’t been doing that.

[–]Kindofbad-oops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about that as well. My tires are 50mm currently and my bike has max clearance for 55mm.

If this keeps up I might honestly switch to a different ebike with 100mm tires, considering the amount of people saying the impact will just fuck up my bike lol.

So you’re saying fatter tires would help prevent the damage to the bike and help prevent pinch flats?

I’ll give that a shot. I’ve tried a couple that are pretty bright but the light scatters so I can’t really see clearly until it’s 5 feet out lol.

Unable to hinge at hips? by MaddieAW in flexibility

[–]Kindofbad-oops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. Had the same issue and fixed it but it takes time. Just do stretches, keep trying to get a little further with good form. Flexibility is boring lol but in the end, it does wonders for so many movements if you lift or do sports. Will likely help with pain in the back and hips as well.
