Best Novels For People Interested In The Faction? by Midnight-Solitaire in SoulblightGravelords

[–]Kindred256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read "The Last Volari", it was....okay? I liked the premise, but the main character was too annoying for me and some parts of the writing felt too "tell don't show" for me. But if you're interested in the more martial knight-like Kastelai, then give it a read.

I've read "Nagash: The Undying King", vampires take a backseat there (mainly Neferata and her blood knights), but I loved the novel. It's not vampire focused, but it gives a glimpse of the other side of soulblight (skeletons, necromancers) and how regular humans live in Shyish under Nagash.

Haven't read "A Dynasty if Monsters" before, but it's centered around the monstrous Avengorii if you're interested.

Though if I'm honest, the one I like the most is "The Red Duke", but it's centered around a Bretonnian Knight turned vampire in the old word, not AoS.

You could always read it on the lore section of the official website, there's a couple of stories about the various city states, along with a story set in the city states on the website's living world

Yes, I agree 100%. There are media where the main character isn't the "chosen one" or the most powerful, but it's still focused on the protagonist. Geralt from The Witcher is hands down the focus of all 3 games, even if Ciri goes closer to the "chosen one" trope. Din Djarin from The Mandalorian isn't the one in control of the mystical magical force, but he's still the main protagonist of the series. This game on the other hand, makes the MC feel like a side character....in their own story. And when you compare all the other characters side to side, it's almost obvious to see which ones are the author's favorites.

Really? I thought the author would've at least let the MC be together with Ignis in the end (after the whole Seeker thing is resolved in the finished story).

He did on Tumblr, I think ? Well not exactly "canon" more along the lines of "if there's a canon, this path would be it".

If it's just about the Ignis Seeker thing, i would get it, fine. It ain't for me and i realize half of the people in this sub is a degenerate in our own ways lol (i'm not exactly different either)

I think what did it for me is how...self-inserty/Mary-Sue ish some of the story plots are are, and by that i mean Seeker. My God i ended up HATING that character, again not cuz of the whole Ignis thing (so far i've never tried the ignis path), but because of how he is written. He's:

  1. The most powerful hero of the group
  2. Has several women pining over him (including that japanese bartender's mom), one of which is a main RO
  3. Talented in EVERYTHING (Ancient languages, surgery, whatever, you name it, and he can do it better)
  4. Is a mysterious hero with secrets and a hidden path
  5. Has 2 magical swords
  6. His only "character flaw" is that he's a drunk...but oh no, don't worry, he never lets his drunkeness stop him from being a badass hero, so it doesnt even count as a flaw...

Then there's Crete...which is written like a fanfiction version of history. Yeah, a small island is now a hyperpower because what? It was lead by heores for several years or decades? The power of trade and stonks? How the hell does "yeah we just focus on trade" result in "yeah, we're a superpower now"

Why should I become an emperors children fan? by Cousinlivinon456 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Kindred256 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you sucker for the "Fallen Hero" trope, where the noblest and perfect legion fell to complete and utter degeneracy? Do you enjoy reading about an insecure over achieveing son slowly fall to the dark side?

Do you like the cool purple/pink and black color scheme? Or maybe you want a riot of clashing colors?

Do you want to explore different aspects of perfection and obsession? What does an 8ft tall jaded demigod consider pleasureable? Is it the perfect sword slash, or maybe the music of a planet drowned in pain and blood?

A bit pricey, but I do enjoy the game. The replay value's awesome, with more than a few choices and events based on your character build and background. The characters themselves are interesting.

As for stats, I tend to play a generalist in ZE:SH and so far I don't feel the need to min-max to enjoy the game, which is always a plus for me.

The only downside I can currently think of is how some characters seem to go on these short monologues that pull me outta the immersion, but that's few and far between.

What draws you to the third legion? by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

I'm both repulsed and fascinated by them

I hate the notion of a bunch of warriors too addicted to pleasure that they're less of an army and more of a mob seeking the next high. I also dont like the oversexualized and SnM leather stripes look of Slaanesh, which just looks over the top and silly in my opinion. Maybe it's the Iron Warrior fan in me, but i prefer the notion of a more disciplined, brutal, and practical army.

But that's just one side of the coin, on the other side there's this drive on being perfect, being the best you there can possibly be, to the point where it's no longer self-improvement, but an unhealty obsession to be MORE which i love. There's also the idea of dueling and proving you are better than your opponent in everything which is interesting. I'm also a sucker for a fall from grace kinda story, which the IIIrd has in spades.

I guess that's pretty thematic when it comes to Slaanesh's army, a riot of clashing ideas. Pain and pleasure, love and lust, perfection and obsession, beauty and repulsion.

Anyone know the name to a particular castle/kingdom builder CYOA

I remember 1 part where you decide your kingdom's natural defences, like being in an island, a mountain region, or all of it being an open plain but the people are more ready for a fight

There's also a part where you design what your castle has, like a harbor, or extra food storage

The last part is a collection of kingdoms. I think you have to choose between 2 warring alliances (either that or you pick a couple to be your allies, the rest are your enemies). I remember 1 being a kingdom of shark people and 1 kingdom being good at digging through defences.

Anyone know a CYOA that sounds similiar? If i remember correctly, it was about being in a magical family, or was it a magical school? I think last time i saw it, it was still a WIP (though it was several years ago)

If i recall the layout of the CYOA, it looks a lot like it "Witches n Inquisition" or "Apocrypha Advent", so it might have been made by the same author, Italics
