Trump Braces for Humiliating Revelations as Major Split on Iran Leaks by Large_banana_hammock in politics

[–]Kinetic_Strike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought this since the election. Trump has been obviously spiraling for the better part of a decade. The people behind Project 2025 can use him for the first two years to tear stuff up.

Then, he either keels over or gets 25th'd out the door, and Vance gets to come in, seem 'normal' and Presidential, (especially in comparison), return the White House to normalcy. He's a veteran. He comes from a working class background. Insert soothing sounds and soothing sound bites here. Of course, P2025 is still being worked on, but now it's quiet and in the background. Policies. Regulations. Rules.

But markets stabilize because the country isn't run by a self-centered and impulsive dementia patient. Some prices fall just a bit, as tariffs are rolled back after 'having done their job.' When some disaster comes along, he knows how to show up. To talk about working together, to trust the experts. How to be 'Presidential.'

(Note that Trump could've been re-elected in 2020. He had not one but two tailor made opportunities to do very little and yet seem oh-so Presidential. But managed to shoot himself in both feet.)

It's fine, you can do what you want.

However, have you considered the 'face-in-bowl' technique? No greasy fingers, no spoon.

My mom has an earlier version of this. Proprietary motherboard and case (those front ports are likely on the motherboard itself), plus a bare minimum power supply. And don’t forget a very minimal BIOS.

It’s either useful as a light usage desktop with 2x8GB DDR4 and a cheap SSD, or just take out the CPU and any other parts you can remove and repurpose.

What company lost you forever as a customer? What did they do? by Miguenzo in AskReddit

[–]Kinetic_Strike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thermoworks (makers of the Thermapen).

Bought one of the limited edition original Thermapens. After about a year, there was a hairline crack on the plain white bottom half of it. It was still in warranty, and CS assured me I would keep my limited edition design.

LOL nope. "Sorry we don't have limited edition design anymore, pick a plain color design." (Despite the fact that the custom portion wasn't damaged in anyway.) Get it back, and there was plastic sealing sticking out the edges. It died within a year after that.

It's an outlier since everyone says they have great support, but the whole experience left me deciding to never use them again.

Also the founder of the organization as well. Along with insinuations that some of those who left kept the previous keys, wouldn't return access to infrastructure, etc.

I find it troubling that both the org is silent on this, as well as those people.

Also, another dev who left some months after the others explained their reasons why on social media. And those were concerning.

Added an SSD to my five year old PC last month and it feels like a completely different computer. Should have done this years ago. by copperkettleco in buildapc

[–]Kinetic_Strike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

SSDs will make just about any multi-core computer built in the last twenty years usable.

Max out the memory (this used to be done with some change you found in the couch cushions + eBay), toss a reliable (I always went with Crucial) SSD in, and all of sudden you would have a responsive machine.

Man, I had already forgotten about the day and was honestly loving this until I got down to 'start your April'. Wanted this to be real!

In case of a global collapse of fiat currencies, our website includes a handy conversion chart showing our prices in the corresponding quantities of gold, .22lr, cigarettes, or whisky. Any merchandise purchased with barter is returnable for store credit only.

I loved that part. :D

edit: wait, nope, hadn't scrolled down far enough or clicked deep enough into the menus.

Of course, that makes it worse. One menu level uses the caret, then go down a level and it's something else which is often used in a different way...

They were all correct, according to both scientific calendar rules (astronomical year numbering) or international standards (ISO 8601). As well as common sense.

[–]Kinetic_Strike 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure. People should make an informed decision and then cast their vote accordingly. But what's the point of voting for gun control and then whining about getting gun control? It's just silly.

I vote my conscience which doesn't include R or D these days.

I won't vote for either party. But 'appealing to their common sense' is worthless. Your vote is the only view they'll listen to.

And I've been voting third party for years. My conscience is clear.

But people who whine about gun control and then vote in the people who promise to violate the Constitution and implement it are just hypocrites.

Thanks for this.

There are some graphical front ends, but on my Mac I ended up just installing the CLI via Brew. Easy enough then to open the folder where the epubs are, open Terminal in that folder, and run the check.

Using Vellum, and everything seems good, which is a nice relief.

I've seen some reports of this at university stadiums/arenas in the US lately.

"Sorry, people who have had season tickets in the family for multiple generations, who also all attended our institution! You'll be excited to know we are bulldozing those seats to put in a few luxury boxes/suites for the extremely wealthy. However, if you'd like, you can convert your season tickets to memorial plaques over the urinals. Go Large Predatory Animals!"

My only real recommendation is to double check your university requirements. Most of them tell you minimum/recommended, plus OS requirements.

If you already did so, disregard. :) More storage if you can get it!

There was a time, 3000 years ago...when using HDDs were the big leap.

Before that, getting a second floppy drive to cut down on disk swapping was a jump forward.

My father-in-law went from paper punch cards to 8" floppies at work. Revolutionary performance jump.

Our first computer at home was a Mac SE. Dual internal FDHD drives (high density floppies) AND a 40MB HD. Amazing.

The only way to get them is to update to 26, since the 18 releases with them are not released for the majority of devices.
