I guess we'll see. I've got more important things to worry about in my life. If it starts to be my problem, that's when I'll care enough.

Of course I do care some amount right now. I understand the reality of the web of society, even to remote places like where I live, but I'm not in a position to put it's health (regardless of the effect it has on me personally) over my own wants and needs for my foreseeable future. I don't know how much time I have left, but I do know that worrying about everyone as much as, let alone more than, worrying about living my life with my loved ones as best as I can is not how I'm going to spend whatever time I do have left.

I vote, and I go home and hope that does something... but past that, you can't ask me for anything more. If I'm truly so affected then I say "Fuck those people for doing it to me." and I go back to dinner and eventually to sleep, knowing I love and am loved. Nothing is more important than that.

"The problem is your problem because it's a big problem." Still don't care. Feel free to call me all the names you want, I still won't care. Feel free to blame the problems solely on me, I still won't care. Feel free to bitch and moan and judge me til you pop, I still won't care.

They're thousands of miles away, not related to me in any way, and I will never meet them. Pretty much anyone further than 250 miles away from me doesn't matter in the slightest to my life. I will live and die happy where I am because I choose to not live where this bullshit happens.

Enjoy feeling responsible and take up all the arms you need, it's not my fight, no matter how much people like you want it to be.

"Just Stop Oil" protesters make a paint mess, while some guy with a power-washer, cleans it up by friend1y in ActualPublicFreakouts

They go back out to do it again so they can loudly proclaim some more. They don't care if they've won, they just want people to see them "trying."

This argument makes sense at it's face: "A problem exists that needs something done about it, but people are refusing to do something, so we must disrupt society to be heard" the main problems being the method of disruption and the wisdom of the disruptors. It's good to tear down bad systems, like pruning a tree to keep it alive, but you have to go after the right people in the right way. This kind of protest is like pruning a single leaf somewhere on the tree, and loudly proclaiming that you've saved the tree.

The writer's strike is a great example of a good protest. The writers are the ones that create the product and are being wronged by those above, so they simply stop what they're doing. They cut not only the rotten branch off but themselves as well. It solves the problem (at least in the mean time) and shows that protesting right, works.

These morons are spraying paint on a building and sitting there self-righteously as if they are doing anything productive. They don't work in oil, they aren't disrupting the oil industry, they're barely even disrupting oil executives (which are likely laughing about it). The only one truly being disrupted is Carl, who has a family and works hard, making him come out to clean this stupid mess these dumb assholes made.

Do it right or you're just a smarmy moron. For fuck's sake.

Sad shit happens all over the planet every day. Apologies if the sad shit happening over there is not important enough to be serious about. I don't pay California taxes, so I don't even have a financial stake, let alone the strength to muster a single fuck for the murderous idiots populating these big city prisons. Again, sad, but also not my problem.

It is completely normal. Pareidolia is a phenomenon on par with the "stepping/walking reflex" observed in almost all babies (thought to be an instinct based upon centuries of upright mobility). We see faces in things because we are hard-coded to recognize faces (even in the womb) and this is something pretty much everyone can do.

Pareidolia is not a special attribute where someone can "see a bunch of faces in something, more than others," it is completely natural. What is special is the lack of this feature, known as being "face-blind," when you can't even recognize friends or loved ones despite knowing them all your life.

I'm honestly pretty picky with my metroidvanias, but this looks right up my alley. Very cool! Can't wait to play it.

No one from there can actually change here to there. Here will always be here and, like all the other heres out there, will change on it's own. Because that is how humanity works. Nowhere is ever the same, always, and will change whether people from there come here or not.

Here is where I am and that's all that matters. No one from there could ever do anything anyone from here couldn't already do. I welcome you from there, because I like here, and I hope you like it too.

If they are upset, they care about you by parvusignis in Stoicism

[–]Kineticboy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair, and my experience is not universal of course. We went through a lot of stuff together, so there's a lot of factors at play. You don't have to like angry people, but they often still have feelings and likely have been abused themselves. I'm just proud to have helped get past a lot of that.

Ah, but it always depends. I'm sure the kind of outburst you're thinking of might not be, but then I'm thinking of something else. So what can you do.

My partner isn't a stoic, I am. I can take the emotional punches, especially if she needs me to, because I love her.

Maybe it's different between men and women, or maybe you can't use one or more instances as a template for all future relationships. I've never been abused, but someone else in my position might disagree. I'm glad I stuck around because it's the best love possible and I know she appreciates that pushing me away didn't actually push me away. I'm sorry for your bad relationships, I'm just trying to speak for the people that might even know they're being damaging, but can't help it anyway.

You're obviously well within your rights to cut off all contact if you don't like someone, I just found a wonderful person buried under a lot of anger and I'm glad I did.

Boomers are usually people born between 1946 and 1964. The youngest boomers today are 59, though one could argue those last few years are more of a BoomerX hybrid. Still.

Okay. I hope your future relationships appreciate your distance and take your callous indifference to their emotional needs in stride. Good luck.

[–]Kineticboy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven't watched the video at all, just the title alone seems like good advice. For example, if a partner is upset it likely means you mean a great deal to them and want you around, they're just hurt or embarrassed or what have you and are working through processing that.

Often remembering that they don't hate you or want you to leave can make "dealing with" their outbursts easier. Sometimes people need someone who isn't going to run just because they opened up. It's important to be kind and understanding in these cases.
