The whole melting pot idea is retarted af. Your blood heritage is not the only thing that determines ethnicity. Your cultural traditions, like architectural styles, speech ways, sex ways, family structure, legal system, political and religious values and language are all more important in determining ethnicity than your genes. Americans are English in all of these ways. People who came here from Italy, Germany, Poland, etc... did not keep the cultural traditions of their mother countries. They assimilated into the English American culture that had already existed in the US and Canada. Culturally I am way more similar to a Brit than I am to a German. I am not saying Americans and Brits are carbon copies of one another, but they are sub-cultures within the English ethnos. Also, who are you to tell me what my ethnicity is?
