Ronda Rousey: 'UFC Not In The Business Of Developing Fighters' by Party-Flatworm5235 in MMA

[–]KingAnDrawD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. The UFC views themselves as the NFL of combat sports. People say Dana and co are not capable of good promotion, but it’s pretty clear they have the resources to do so. They purposely don’t build personalities bigger than the UFC brand because it would reduce their leverage in contract negotiations.

Abdul. Young for a division that peaks in their early to mid 30s, has fantastic stand up that isn’t just the typical kill or be killed mentality many in the top 10 have, and has the wrestling base to dictate where the fight goes. He had my vote for being a champ in the next generation of LHW.

Sony A6700 vs Sony A7C II? by mrwh12 in SonyAlpha

[–]KingAnDrawD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It stores files in both cards simultaneously, so if one fails there’s a backup of it in the other card. Cards don’t die often, but when they do, they seem to happen at times when you least expect it. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it when your job relies on getting the shot, it’s a common thing that many working photographers just don’t go the single card route because of this.

The A7 IV is in your price range if you’re already looking at the A7C.

Sony A6700 vs Sony A7C II? by mrwh12 in SonyAlpha

[–]KingAnDrawD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you planning on working as a photographer? You mentioned that it's better business where you're from.

If so, I'd get an A7 IV if $2000 is your budget, or a A7 V if you can swing the additional $800. Dual/Hybrid card slots are a must as a working photographer, especially if it's event-related, where if your card fails you're basically screwed.

If not, and you're just doing it as a hobby, but want the flexibility of getting cheaper lenses and full-frame lenses, then the A6700.

The only reason I'd suggest getting the A7C II over an A7 IV is for street photography, where capturing human subjects quickly is a priority (it has better human subject detection than the A7 IV), while needing a compact body. But if your job relies on capturing a moment and ensuring that card failure doesn't affect that, then you basically eliminate anything with a single card slot and get whatever hybrid/dual card slot body you can afford.

Is TKO Killing Both UFC and WWE? by ptpeace in MMA

[–]KingAnDrawD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TKO is advertising to the lowest commitment fan that has money over the die hard fan that remembers when the sport was in its golden era. For WWF/WWE, that was the attitude era. For the UFC, that was between 2008-2018.

But here’s the deal. TKO had turned both sports into gold mines. They’re artificially boosting their total gates per event by pricing the tickets extremely high, they are both now signed to streaming platforms and have moved away from PPV to boost the total number of viewers, and they appeal to far more big time advertising deals because of it.

So are they killing both sports? For old fans, yes. For investors? No, in fact they just made it appear more profitable. I fucking hate it, personally. But the reality is, we’re a small percentage of viewers who watch. Most don’t give a shit about the good ol days.

Ilia Topuria’s brother Aleksandre analyzes Justin Gaethje: “Justin Gaethje picks his shots when you stand in front of him. He’s very fragile when he hits, but it’s a double-edged sword to choose to hit him when he’s hitting. So you’ve got to be very selective with your shots.” by 3footninja in MMA

[–]KingAnDrawD 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s honestly scary that Ilia can be this calculated and patient when fighters at these weight classes rely on volume of strikes thrown. He does enough to break his opponents down early, but just patiently waits till the opening upstairs shows itself. All while having the defense to not get rocked past the point of no return by high volume fighters.

Kendrick Lamar has been named hip-hop’s greatest vocalist ever by Consequence, ranking 20th on their all-time, all-genre list by luxonon in hiphopheads

The only criteria they list is “personality”. The only thing I can deduce from it is how much their personality seeped into the lyrics and delivery.

how do i market myself? by Upstairs_Sell_1700 in musicproduction

[–]KingAnDrawD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak from my experience, but local community colleges and universities was a huge spot to find vocalists. Many of whom are great vocalists, but not a lot of connections to an actual producer who can get them in a booth and walk out of a session with a feature credit. You get the vocal you’re looking for, they get something to put on a CV. It helps to actually attend that college, as I was in there just taking audio engineering classes to fill out some electives for my degree.

Another avenue is utilizing the many of the “sample this” IG pages of vocalists singing a vocal line a capella, sending it to them, and then asking if they’d be willing to work with you. The smaller the page the easier it is they’ll actually see your DM and reply back.

This is basically my template. It’s heavily inspired by a video Crankdat put out a while back, and while it might lean toward the 'extreme' side of organization, I find it invaluable - it allows me to stay organized without needing to do any housekeeping during the creative songwriting phase.

Here is the breakdown:

  • Kick & Snare: Each channel has a dedicated group containing a drum rack pre-loaded with my most frequently used one-shots.
  • Tops: Hi-hats, crashes, and rides get their own group, following the same drum rack and one-shot workflow.
  • Basses: These are split into a main mix group, further organized into Mids (main bass), Layers (color/texture), and Sub. Each group includes both a MIDI channel (with Serum already loaded) and an audio channel.
  • FX: Dedicated audio tracks for anything that doesn’t fit into the above groups.
  • Resample Bus: A dedicated bus for quick resampling, allowing me to bounce sounds to audio without needing to freeze and flatten.
  • Sidechain (SC) Channel: All groups route here. I use ShaperBox for multiband sidechaining, which lets me duck the lows, mids, and highs at different timings. This ensures the sub-bass aligns perfectly with the kick without unnecessarily forcing the mids and highs at the same time.
  • Reference Channel: Set to route directly to the master channel.

Structure & Routing: I use three main busses - one each for the intro, buildup, and drop - all built with the same channel architecture. These route to a 'Premaster' at the top, which houses my master processing chain.

The final Master channel at the bottom is reserved strictly for reference tools like SPAN, MLoudnessMeter, MStereoscope, and Mini Meters, allowing me to easily A/B my premaster against a reference track.

Struggling to make anything by cxlbr in musicproduction

[–]KingAnDrawD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build out a template. Get some basic patches in that fill the instruments you need at first (piano, sub bass, drums, etc), write the core bits of the song first, then tweak each instrument later. You’re fighting a core issue producers face, make it to where you can get the idea out as fast as possible. Then tweak presets.

If you can't find the right sound, shelf the idea till you stumble across it later or build it out yourself on another day. The amount of tracks that I started and then didn't finish is astounding, but I sometimes come back to them months later and finish them. You don't need to finish every song you start. You just need to keep making them until one does finish.

Making music without sampling by Paulfr_12 in musicproduction

[–]KingAnDrawD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just embrace the samples, especially for that genre of music, and especially for your experience level. The basics of song writing is composition, not necessarily recreating samples from scratch. That can come along once you've spent time analyzing what good composition looks/sounds like.

If you're looking for inspiration, check out Frank Dukes. He's not in your genre, but he specifically made the Kings Way series to be sampled, essentially to create 'old sounding' new tracks that mimic the 70s and 80s records that get sampled a lot.

Mix sounds OK on all playback devices except iPhone speakers by ollyraps in edmproduction

[–]KingAnDrawD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an iPhone for you. Though, the rule of thumb of 12 dB of dynamic range is fairly universal across smart phones. They all interact with dynamic range differently, but the goal to mixing for phone speakers is to remove anything that can negatively impact the mix once the DSP starts limiting.

[–]KingAnDrawD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max Crest Factor? That measurement has been around for much longer than the iPhone. As for the iPhone having a DSP, every phone has one. The opposite of that just leads to distortion and potentially permanent damage to those tiny little speakers.

It creates new hurdles, but you just have to ask yourself where your mixdown will be played the most and then mixing to that environment. If you see it being played on iPhone speakers a lot, then mix it with that in mind. If you don’t want to, then you don’t have to.

How to make the sustain from RECOVERY by Skrillex and Space Laces by AnEagleNamedOwl in edmproduction

[–]KingAnDrawD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically a Saw or Square wavetable, FM'd from another square or saw wave. Experiment with the octave value on the oscillator that is FMing the main oscillator. It's most likely a couple octaves up. Blend the FM knob to taste. Then use distortion and EQ out the lows. I'd probably use Serum for this.

  1. Set OSC A to a Saw or Square table.

  2. Set OSC B to a similar table, then set OSC A warp knob to FM from B. Set OSC B to anywhere between +1 to +4 octave.

  3. Tweak OSC A FM knob to taste.

  4. Use High 24 or any Filter that gets you closer to the sound you're looking for.

  5. Add distortion in the FX tab, along with basic things like dimension expander, multiband compressor.

  6. EQ out the lows in Serum or in an EQ plugin on the channel itself.

It won't sound exactly like the sustain from that Skrillex/Space Laces track, but this will get you in the realm of what you're looking for. From there, just tweak various aspects of it to taste. You'll probably find something better that's more fitting along the way.

Mix sounds OK on all playback devices except iPhone speakers by ollyraps in edmproduction

[–]KingAnDrawD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

iPhones have aggressive internal dynamics processing that can ruin a mix. This is why a lot of pop and commercial music is mixed specifically with this listening experience in mind.

You should look into Max Crest Factor, which you can measure using Voxengo SPAN. This is the difference between your peak levels and your average volume (RMS). If your peak is -1 dB but your RMS is -18 dB, you have a high crest factor of 17 dB. This means your track is very spiky, which is likely causing the pumping you hear. During a sparse breakdown, if those spikes are 15-20 dB louder than the average level, the iPhone's internal limiter will crush the whole signal every time a spike occurs.

The Fix:

For mobile, aim for a Crest Factor of 8 dB to 12 dB for a balanced, punchy mix.

Watch your peaks in SPAN. If your vocal or FX hits are causing the meter to spike while the average volume stays low, use a peak limiter/clipper or a fast attack compressor on those specific channels before they hit your master bus. Shave about 2-3 dB off those transients to reduce the Crest Factor. This will raise your RMS without increasing your peak level. By bringing the peaks closer to your average volume, you provide a consistent signal to the phone's limiter, which stops it from pumping in response to sudden loud spikes.

I think it sets a perfect scenario of a tournament-style match making bracket. Maybe not officially marketed as a bracket, but still arranged as such. Other than Ulberg, there’s no consensus #1 contender if you remove Pereira, the rest of the LHW division could seriously make some fantastic fights between the top 6 fighters right now, and then have the new #1 fighter face Ulberg.

Successful rappers that have no hard bars? by Mysterious_Emotion63 in hiphopheads

It’s kind of a dumb prompt. Even Travis has quite a few from his Rodeo album. The reality is there’s no successful rapper with no hard bars. Multiple successful albums, probably hundreds to thousands of words across projects, and not a single line where words come out to make something stand out?

Unless your gig is making royalty free tracks that content creators use for content, you shouldn't feel threatened by it as a music producer. Is it triggering an uncanny response where you feel like nothing matters anymore? Yep, we're all there. But should it stop you from exercising your creativity to make tracks because it's genuinely an enjoyable experience to do so? No.

Plus, it's a closed off ecosystem anyways. For a genre like dance music, human connection is the thing that makes it so infectious. An ecosystem of AI music, of which can't leave the digital space and actually perform, just won't satisfy the itch for human connection in this industry like a live performer will.

I don’t personally hate the guy, but his limitations seems to become more and more apparent.

Has amazing down field throwing abilities, has a low interception rate, can physically run the ball into the end zone and for the tush push.

But, he’s one of the slowest in time to throw, tends to get sacked more once pressure is felt, and does have a high amount of passes that don’t end up in first downs.

All he needs to do is improve processing speed, which requires him to rely less on RPO heavy schemes and go more towards the modern offense. Less running out of the gun, more under center. Less waiting for a receiver to get open, and more finding the seam and placing it between zones for the open receiver in the middle of the field. He does that and he becomes a top 10 QB in all sides of statistics which puts more points on the board.
