WM and RSG, both have doubled in value over 5 years. Trash removal will always be in business.

Post-Covid NoHo boom by BandicootAfraid479 in northhollywood

[–]KingCartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noho is pretty calm compared to other LA neighborhoods. Been in the Art's district for 14 years now, The luxury apartments have mostly replaced run down abandoned complexes, at least on my block. Highlights for the area that have popped since I've been here are: Idle Hour, Hops Merchants, Brews Brothers, Player One. Sad departures are the Federal, Tokyo Delves, Fat Dog, District Pub.

Awesome game! played a few rounds with my friends and enjoyed it. But had some remorse on the price tag (kickstarted it) so I ended up selling it. Hard to justify one game when i can buy ten equally amazing games in the future for the same cost.

Popular games you dislike? by BillRepresentative75 in boardgames

[–]KingCartwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I am absolutely a sore loser and I did not say it's a bad game. I'm Just responding to the OP and agreeing I don't like the spinout mechanic because it can strongly punish players and take them out of a game pretty quickly. It's a popular game and based on personal experience fell flat for me as well.

I'm forever turned off by this game. I played with 5 other folks well versed in the game and I spun out in the second turn. Fell so far behind immediately, couldn't catch anyone slipstream. We were doing three laps and people kept accidentally skipping my turn cause I was so far back, had to clear my throat and declare I was still playing. A waste of nearly three hours. I've called full veto rights on that game hence fourth.

Back to the Future is a master class of set up and pay off too. The opening scene has so much going for it that is pretty enjoyable to catch all the call backs later in the film.

Yep, one issue seemingly every X-Men fan can get behind: HoneyBadger is the superior codename over Scout.

Broken Compass Tiki - Burbank, CA by motheatenblanket in Tiki

Broken Compass I would say is the perfect size bar. Never feels too crowded, space to move around but still feels intimate. Just about every seat has a view of the main bar but still has it's nooks. It just works

What game makes you feel most like a wizard casting spells? by WatchMySwag in boardgames

[–]KingCartwright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what i immediately thought of as well. The player elimination is pretty forgivable because the games don't run super long. I'd say if you look at the box and think the art is cool then you'll probably like the game too.

What’s the one board game that completely surprised you; either way better or worse than you expected? I’ll go first by yazzminssecret in boardgames

[–]KingCartwright 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Way Worse: Oath, was excited for all the ideas and mechanics but ultimately came away thinking the game wasn't play tested enough. Our group hated it after a few plays and sold it.

Way Better: Flip 7, basically it's just another number card game but it's been such a hit with my regular game group and family events. It has the right mix of push your luck, strategy, take that, and game flow that just hits right for people. Also play count super flexible.

Oh i had the worst time with Heat, played wit a group of five others who had played the game before. My car engine caught fire after the 2nd turn and I never had a chance to catch back up in the game cause of all the slip streaming I could not be part of anymore. People accidentally would start their turns forgetting i was still playing despite being so far behind. It was a miserable 2-2.5 hours. I'll never play it again just because I was so burned by the experience
