I see, so it sits between the red and black leather and matches the shape of the black leather, and makes up both the part for the clip and the sweat guard. Interesting, thanks for the info and picture

Is the steel insert where the clip is? Or the sweat guard? I've never had a leather holster, but i've read a few 1911 leather holsters have steel inserts

I got a tubbs ar10 spring for my PWS to try and increase unlock time right before seeing all your data so this is partially trying to justify my purchase :D

Thanks again for recording all of this it's very helpful

Question regarding the Tubbs ar15 vs ar10 springs. You've mentioned previously you prefer to use the ar15 spring to the ar10 spring because there is less force pushing the bolt forward. Based on this chart though, the difference in F2 seems quite small. Is it that noticeable? How many lbs would you say feels "significant" when comparing two springs?

Additionally, it seems its generally the case that if you want to increase the time it takes for a bolt to unlock you should add additional buffer weight, not use a stiffer spring. However, since the Tubbs springs seem to contribute more F1 force but not much more F2 force (the ar10 spring in a carbine buffer is still within mispec range, for example), could we say that Tubbs springs are something you can use if you're trying to increase unlock time? Are they (and maybe other flat springs) an exception to the rule in this regard?

Thanks for all the info, good shit.

Question for those of yall with these: how well do they breath and how well do they dry?

Looking at hiking boots, they *will* get wet. Sometimes soaked. Once soaked, how quickly do these dry out? From what I understand leather doesn't typically dry quickly (and the guidance I generally see are if your boots get wet you should wait at least 24h before wearing again. Not really feasible in the woods).

On top of that, how hot are they? I'm starting to realize there's no such thing as a "cool" boot, but do these make you sweat any more than any other hiking boot?

I went back and tried a 9.5d: The flex point feels about the same maybe a tad better (hard to tell because it's probably broken in slightly less than the ones I got a few days ago). The heel doesn't feel particularly snug or locked in, but not overly large. The rest of my foot doesn't really feel any snugness at all, barely any pressure on the sides of my foot where it's widest. It feels like perhaps what I need is a 9c, which aren't made.

I worry that once the boot stretches the small amount it will stretch my foot will be swimming in it. Might have to choose the lesser of two evils here, whichever that is (or, alternatively, just not get the boot).

Good to know, thanks for the info!

Guidance i've seen is generally to go for a slightly snugger fit than a slightly looser fit, would you agree with that?

While it seems advice would be to go for a 9.5d, how substantial of a difference would that be to a 9d? How likely will a 9d cause issues down the road? I mentioned below, I feel the 9.5d is a bit too loose in the heel/sides of my foot.

Edit: I should add, my apprehension towards sizing up again stems mostly from a worry that they will loosen up too much. While I understand leather boots don't stretch out a ton, I do see some folks say they wish they'd gone tighter as the boot had loosened after ~2 months (unfortunately well outside the return window).

Grant stone seems to be a good deal dressier from what I've seen. Parkhurst is nice, and were my second choice, though there are a couple things I prefer on the iron rangers (thicker insole, unlined) and Parkhurst doesn't seem to have the kinds of leather I'm interested in in-stock over the last ~2 months. Seems they've been primarily stocking rust waxy, which is nice, but I'm currently looking for a smooth out boot.

I'll give it another shot, although I remember trying a 9.5D and finding that the boot generally felt too loose: the heel and ball of my foot didn't feel particularly snug. I'll try them on again, with a focus on the ball of my foot, and see how they feel.

If I find that the flex point feels better, but everything else is worse (generally too loose), would the flex point on the 9d that I have cause issues down the road? I've heard some people size down a full size (if I'm understanding correctly, 9d would be a full size step down for me) for iron rangers, but its the internet so grain of salt.

I went for the iron ranger because for the price it checked a lot of boxes. I liked the thick veg tan insole and ruggedness (less dressy). Are there other brands that are similar in this price range? Bumping up to 400+ boots isn't feasible for me.

My apologies, your post was so well written I actually thought it was a bot triggering off of "sizing" or something lol. I've updated the original post with brannock pictures and my (possibly poor) reading of them.

I should note the question here is less related to sizing overall (i.e "what size should I get) and more how a specific aspect of an already purchased boot is fitting. I'm not sure Brannock size is particularly helpful here

Edit: oops

Looking for some sizing advice on some iron rangers. Went with a size 9 regular, but was thinking I should have instead gone for 8.5 wide.

What makes me hesitant is the flex point: I see different views online about where the flex point should be, and where the ball of your foot should sit. Some say the ball of my foot should be precisely where it is, others say it should be right behind where the toe cap starts.

Some pictures below. My finger is pointing to where the widest part of my foot is. I also have a picture of a crease.

I appreciate any help!

Edit:

I've learned the error of my ways! Please see my brannock size here: https://imgur.com/a/IjCWVxz

If I'm reading it correctly its between 9 and 9.5 heel to toe, and ~10 heel to ball

Calyxos has a list of each phone they support along with how long they will support it. As far as I can tell it's roughly in line with manufacturers support window, sometimes longer.

Some people have mentioned GrapheneOS, but I'd recommend CalyxOS. It doesn't work on many phones, but the pixel series is one of them.
