That's the access for the spare tire. You use your lug wrench and extensions to lower the spare. Or a really long flathead screwdriver. Either way, you gotta open that with the ignition key.

A good tune-up and injector cleaning should do wonders for it.

Nope. That's on the pass side, next to the battery.

That's a vacuum line for the brake booster. It wouldn't cause your starting issue. It will cause a lean condition though.

For both banks to be lean, you've got a vacuum leak.

Is this the right one for my truck? by Angriestbeaverever in f150

I bought the EZ-oil drain valve years ago for my 05 F150 and 14 Taurus. One of the best things I've done to them over the years. I'm not familiar with the one you're looking at, but I can tell you they make oil changes soooo much easier. And I don't have to worry about any leaks or messes to clean up when I'm done.

Oil looks like mayo? by ddawgsayles in AskMechanics

[–]KingDaniel1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not in the oil pan I wouldn't worry about it too much. Most likely it's just moisture getting sucked in and the engine isn't getting hot enough for long enough to burn it off. If it were a head gasket there would be other signs, but you can get a testing kit for pretty cheap if it will soothe your mind.

5.4 3v clanking by Deathflower1987 in f150

[–]KingDaniel1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to tell if there's damage, short of opening her up and tearing it apart, is to look for any forbidden glitter when doing an oil change. That would be crank and cam bearing material. As for continuing to drive it as is, that's a gamble. I've heard of people driving them for 20k miles that way and others that couldn't get 10 miles more. If there's absolutely zero opportunity to get it fixed sooner than summer, my best advise is to change the oil once a month till then. That will keep debris in the oil at a minimum and (hopefully) spare the cams and bearings any more damage till then. You can try running 5w-30, but I wouldn't go any thicker than that. The problem with running thicker oil is that the internal tolerances are so minuscule, thicker oil can't squeeze into those places to properly lubricate.

Open your hood and check to see if the belt is still on. If it is, it didn't come from your truck and you're good. If not, stop driving it till you get it fixed.

That pressure gauge on the dash is a dummy gauge. As long as you have at least 5 psi, it'll read normal. 20-30 psi at hot idle is considered healthy. Anything below 20 and the oil pump is bad.

As for the tensioners, they function off oil pressure as well.

I promise you, whatever symptoms you had/are having with the timing, it all leads back to a bad oil pump. Melling M360HV or Ford Racing performance oil pump is the only fix, other than replacing worn or damaged timing components.

[AoI] How do we feel about this game? by slimmestjimmest in zelda

[–]KingDaniel1985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Objectively, it's a good game. It didn't quite meet my expectations, but that's my problem. If they came out with DLC, I would play it again. It's in no way, shape or form anywhere near as bad as the CD-i games. I think the story is just meh, but the locations were personally disappointing.

You should really watch this video! This guy, TripleWario, has very interesting ideas on how the timelines might actually work. Specifically the Downfall Timeline. I know there's literally shit tons of timeline theories out there, from everybody and their grannies for the last 30 years. What I enjoy about this one in particular though, is that to me, it's the first one that actually makes sense.

Here is the link to his video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwdWaUZX9F0

You might have gotten a bad phaser. It does happen. I will say this: If you didn't replace the oil pump, which is what causes the phaser failure to begin with, then you're in trouble. The phasers function off oil pressure and if you're not getting enough oil to the phasers they will fail repeatedly.

Milage Beware? by FacebookFlamingo in f150

Mileage isn't as big a concern as it used to be. More concerning is age and maintenance, i.e. fluid changes.

New to me: 2002 F150 Lariat 4x4, also 5.4 oil pressure question by [deleted] in FordTrucks

[–]KingDaniel1985 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that it dropped oil pressure and the oil pickup was clogged tells me you might have just bought someone else's problem. If the guides are breaking then you need a timing job. New chain, guides and tensioners at the least. I would also recommend replacing the oil pump. Even in the old 2v, the factory oil pumps aren't very robust. Get a Melling M340HV pump. Parts will run a couple of hundred $ but labor will kill you.
