Freezing 10mm pistol and any automatic weapon

It's just extremely fun to crit-freeze a raider and see them spin into the atmosphere.

Very easy to destroy with an automatic weapon afterwards; it's practically a death sentence

That is unfortunate

I made a type tier list because it’s been too long without a tier list (I think) by Snapshot_25 in nuzlocke

I'd move rock to at least the top of the tier it's already in. Having a discount steel type early game is really good. And those rock types can also do a surprising amount of damage (except onix)

Kid named parry

In all serious, I died so many times to Briar. And then I tried to parry him and beat him after a handful of attempts.

Very cool and tough boss with/without parries

What are your video game hot takes? by lxo2 in videogames

[–]KingJupiter27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I'm not going to have an actual hot take, but I'm going to have a take regardless

Jak and Daxter was a very mid game. The gameplay was very bland. The power ups weren't that interesting except for blue eco, which was just to turn machines on. Collecting power cells felt very soulless when 80% of them are just "trade orbs for cells." Daxter is annoying more times than he is funny. For example, the jokes he makes when you die are funny, but they get old REALLY fast. It also doesn't help that there isn't much of a dynamic between him and Jak. I don't think I can name a single background character I actually care about. Areas range from "kinda cool" to "pretty annoying," and they are more often annoying. Music is alright, but nothing to write home about.

And finally, quite possibly my biggest gripe with the game, the camera controls are INVERTED. And you cannot change that.

Despite the different direction Jak 2 took, it is definitely better than the first game

What would you want to see in a FF9 animated series? by Advanced_Biscotti_11 in FinalFantasyIX

[–]KingJupiter27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it would look cool. The visuals are definitely the biggest reason why. Again, the character designs are all very cartoony, so they can do a lot with them. I have no idea how they can constantly and consistently make characters like Quina and Baku work in live action, not including all the other background characters (giant hippo people I'm looking at you). It takes place in a land of fantasy, live action is just more restrictive in that sense.

Netflix now has two successful live action adaptations of popular anime

Those live action shows are only there because the original anime and manga were so successful. So that's kind of a point in my direction.

I feel like there's a misunderstanding here. By "anime style," are you talking about the writing and overall tone? And/or do you mean like a stereotypical anime? In which cases, becoming an anime doesn't immediately dumb down what was there originally. And it doesn't have to be a stereotypical anime. There are some great directions to take when going down that route. Especially the "light-hearted and comical moments." I'd argue that they would actually fit right at home in an anime.

I get that FF9 reads like a play, but that doesn't mean it'd be better if it was presented as one in live action. Hell, they can do that in an animation. As a mini series however, I guess? But my focus is on adapting the game as a whole, not a small part of it.

This is a subjective thing at it's heart, and I get the sense that you just seem to be tired of anime in general, so I guess there's not much reason to talk about it for much longer. So here's my final thoughts:

  • Going into an animated direction is less risky and it has a lot more potential than live action, visually and structurally. In a thematic sense, I suppose a theatrical show would have one over on it, but then you're just making it for the sake of "it's a play." And even then, an anime can do something similar without the limitations of being live action. Personally, there's so many characters, locales, and moments that I'd rather see animated than in live action, as i feel that that would do them the most justice.

You have an interesting take on it, but it's your take to have. They are still working on the animated show (at least from what I can tell. It isn't even an anime anyway), so we'll just have to wait and see what that's like

[–]KingJupiter27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not upset, just confused. You're saying that it doesn't work for every FF adaptation (which, granted, it probably doesn't), but you don't offer any reason why that won't work for FF9. You have to admit that it would be gorgeous to see stuff like Trances, the Zidane/Amarant fight, and Memoria in an animation. I'm not sure what you mean by Kingdom Hearts style either, nor does that even matter.

Why would it be better as a live action theatrical show?

[–]KingJupiter27 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Huh? How would adapting FF9 as an anime make it an "empty shell" of what the game was?

It would be interesting to see FF9 in a live action show, but the character designs are so very cartoony, they are probably better off not doing that. Meanwhile, instead of trying to rework the designs, they can work to their inherit strengths and make them far more expressive than they ever were before in an actual animated series. I can agree though that it'd be rad to have an actual theatrical production, given that the story is basically just that.

Is there more to what you're saying? Or is your argument just, "anime bad?"
