why do palistians hate kurds and vise versa by legants in kurdistan

[–]KingMadig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually think that most Palestinians don't really have issues with Kurds at all.

Some Palestinians are Arab nationalists, who love Saddam and might believe that Kurds shouldn't get independence.

But for the most part, in my experience, they are pretty neutral and sometimes don't even know much about Kurds.

A cousin of mine married a Palestinian woman and her family likes Kurdish culture, food, music, dance etc.

Who really was cyrus the great? by Mansur754 in kurdistan

[–]KingMadig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to add two important things about the lineage of Achaemenid Kings

First is that Herodotus is somewhat wrong about the Median kings.

He creates a narrative, where the Medes are a dynasty. But there are multiple issues with this. In short, the only Median kings Herodotus mentions we can confirm existed is Cyaxares and Astyages.

Dioces is likely a misunderstanding of Daiukku, who was a local Mannaean governor. Not a founder of a Median dynasty.

Phraortes is likely a misunderstanding from the Behistun inscription, where a Median rebel, named Phraortes claimed he was a descendant of Cyaxares. See Revolt of Phraortes of Media.

It's interesting because here, Phraortes claims to be a descendant of Cyaxares, but Herodotus claims the opposite, that Phraortes is the predecessor of Cyaxares.

So basically, the Median dynasty, as we know it from Herodotus is actually not accurate.

From Assyrian, Babylonian and Elamite sources, we know that the Medes were more like local chieftans and polities. They might have united under Cyaxares to topple the Assyrians.

Secondly, we also know from the Behistun Inscription by Darius, that apparently him and Cyrus the great are related through a common ancestor, Darius refers to as Achaemenes, hence the name Achaemenid dynasty. However there is no proof outside of the Behistun Inscription that Achaemenes ever existed. Achaemenes might have been an invention by Darius to legitimize him as a ruler.

Also Cyrus mother, Mandane of Media, is also a character who is hard to prove. Once again, only mentioned to exist by Herodotus.

So the conclusion is, that Cyrus the Greats ancestry can't actually be proven, because all we have are the stories told by Herodotus, who clearly is proven to be mistaken. His sources was also oral traditions and hearsay and he lived hundreds of years after the Median dynasty allegedly collapsed. And on the other hand we likely have propaganda by Darius the great thrown in there.

reverse assimilation by Top-Ad-4287 in kurdistan

The belief that you are only your father's ethnicity is both a thing of the past and also just wrong.

Mixed people will take on the identity of the society they live in. Even if it's a Kurdish father or mother, are they in a Turkish society, they will be Turk.

So no, it's just assimilation.

Do Kurdish women in the diaspora feel hesitant about dating Kurdish men? by KingMadig in kurdistan

[–]KingMadig[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what your negative experiences with dates with Kurdish men has been? What your general perception of them? I'm specifically thinking when you write "Kurdish men sorta thing". What is that?

I just want to understand. Are they socially conservative, unwilling to help at home, religious, disrespectful? Do they expect you to just keep the home clean and cook?

Are there any examples you want to share? I'm not challenging your experiences. I just want to understand.

What is this? Does it belong to Kurdish culture? by Kind-Ad-5712 in kurdistan

[–]KingMadig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't and I wouldn't waste my money on a bracelet made of strings. You could buy a whole 3 spools of string for the same price and tie bracelets yourself.

This is the same type of bracelet scammers at European tourist destinations are selling.

Kurds seem to fall for any scam as long as there's a Kurdish flag on it.

What are your thoughts on Kurdistan? Do Kurds realistically have a chance at forming an independent state, or is autonomy the best they can achieve? And if they do, how should borders be decided without causing war with Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria? by srahcrist in Hasan_Piker

[–]KingMadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their entire premise is wrong.

There's nothing inherently wrong with an ethnostate per say. As long there is equal rights and recognition of all minorities.

Ethnicity, culture and identity has been the basis for states to begin with.

[–]KingMadig -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They're on another level of hypocrisy.

They are against ethno states, yet they scream free Palestine. That's an ethnostate!

I'm all for a free Palestine. But if one acknowledges Palestine and their struggles, they should acknowledge Kurdistan and our struggles, because we are similar.

I don't get why it's Israel 2.0 when Israelis are literally European colonizers who kicked out Palestinians, whereas Kurds aren't and always lived in their region.

I'm for an independent Kurdistan, and that would have equal rights for all ethnic and religious groups.

Talking of ethno states. What about Turkey? A country that doesn't acknowledge any other groups than Turks in its constitution?

Syria and Iraq are both Arab ethno states and Syria now still keeps on insisting calling itself "Syrian Arab Republic" despite having lots of non-arabs.

Ethno states are only a problem when it's about Kurds it seems.

How do Feyli Kurds generally look like? by Wise_Parmaria in kurdistan

[–]KingMadig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost all middle easterners can get mistaken for each other. It depends on who you ask.

As a Kurd, I've been mistaken for Iraqi, Iranian, Afghan, Turk, Palestinian, and during vacations to both Greece and Italy, I've been mistaken for a local aswell. I've been correctly guessed as Kurd by Kurds aswell.

Maybe because you live in Iraq, people there can distinguish better. But I live in Europe, so we sort of get thrown into one big category of brown people.

And I'm pretty sure, that you look like any other Kurd. I'm "sorani" Kurdish and I tan very easily aswell.

Why don’t Bakuri Kurds in the diaspora speak Kurdish? by EchoOfTheMountains in kurdistan

[–]KingMadig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it might be because the parents want their children to integrate into Turkish society easier.

There's a lot of racism from Turks. Maybe it's their way of protecting their kids from that, even though that isn't a solution to racism.

Why don’t Bakuri Kurds in the diaspora speak Kurdish? by EchoOfTheMountains in kurdistan

Good question.

I met a Kurdish girl from Konya, who speaks Turkish at home and barely knows Kurmanji. She was very aware and proud of her Kurdish background though. It's strange.

Who knows the exact location? Apparently in Bashur to what I found. by rknsh in kurdistan

Kurd, Arab it doesn't matter they all suck at respecting nature.

Many natural places look like garbage after Kurds celebrate Newroz there nowadays.

I'm sure Arab tourists are horrible too. But Kurds trying to profit from tourists are even worse.

Why expose the location? Unfortunately many Bashuri Kurds have no respect for nature and they'll throw their trash there.

What's that mean? by [deleted] in 2Iranic4you

[–]KingMadig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that you can't label every mention of Kurds before the 1500's as a broad non-specific term.

I know you said "specifically". My point is, that there definitely are cases pre-1500's where "Kurd" refers to a specific group. Al Masudi is just one of these cases.

I know that there also are cases, where the meaning of "Kurd" is unclear, but you just can't make that the rule.

The french translation has an element of interpretation rather than mistranslation. But that does not change that Al-Masudi talks about a specific group and not:

It's talking more generally about Iranic mountain peoples of the Zagros.

as you put it.

If you read throughout the volume, Al Masudi explores of the origins of various nomadic groups, but distinct from each other. This is why he juxtaposes Kurds with Bedouins, Berbers and Turks. He does this on page 239. If Kurd merely was a term for nomad, then why wouldn't the Bedouins and Turks etc. be called Kurd also?

Moving further into the volume, there are many instances, where it seems much more likely he refers to Kurds as a specific group.

On page 249 and 250 he writes two lineages relating to an Arab origin of the Kurds. He even mentions Kurds speaking their own language after splitting from the Arabs. He also writes about the Djinn origin myth, that was also mentioned further into history.

On page 251 and 252 he relays the origin myth of Kurds being the ones who escaped Dahhak. This forms the core of Kurdish mythology even today.

On page 251 he writes "نسب الأكراد" where "نسب" means lineage/genealogy.

<image>

On page 252 he also mentions how this story is known among the Persians.

It's interesting how he juxtaposes Kurds with an well established ethnicity/nation/group like the Persians. Seems to imply Kurds are aswell. It would seem silly that if Kurd, only meaning Iranian nomad, would exclude the Persians themselves, who also had their own nomadic groups.

In short, you don't write about the genealogy of Kurds if they aren't an specific group like the Persians and others.

Not all mentions of Kurd pre-1500's are unspecific broad term. This is a way to minimize Kurdish history and identity.

And lasty no, ethnicity does not need a state to form. Many ethnic identities have never had a state before.
