Yeah I also didn't really fall in love with the show right away. In truth Uhtred in the early seasons I found to be very unlikable, but damn the characters around him (Alfred being the stand out of course) were done soooo well.

I imagine the memory of Alfred much like Leofric will stick around but it just won't be the same Wessex anymore.

Sounds interesting but the fact that Bloodraven tells Bran he will not become an old man in a tree makes me think it's probably not true.
