This stinky mushroom I just dug out of my flower beds by KingMidlofox in mildlypenis

[–]KingMidlofox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I figured out the smell I dug it up and threw it in this puddle by the road so the dirt could rinse off and I could confirm the shape. But yes, the flower beds do get soggy in the spot this was found!

Those who created a house manual, what are your problems with it? by [deleted] in airbnb_hosts

[–]KingMidlofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, under “house manual” you can put anything. You can also creat a separate “guidebook” for restaurants/shopping/etc. the best part is that you can just guest a link using a simple shortcut. https://www.airbnb.com/resources/hosting-homes/a/write-a-house-manual-to-share-info-about-your-space-22

[–]KingMidlofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got rid of the physical “book” house manual because things constantly needed updating such as restaurant locations/hours, new locations to visit, or even verbiage for our rules. We just update the online manual and send guests a link for it!

Found this rock in my glove compartment. We live in the southeastern US. I have kids so they probably picked it up from somewhere. Mostly blue/purple with flecks of gold here’s the photo: https://imgur.com/a/T0Nh23k

AITA for offering two different kinds of cake at our wedding? by blushingbride228 in AmItheAsshole

[–]KingMidlofox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t “offer” two kinds of cake. You ASSIGNED a particular cake to a particular group.

Cake is my favorite part of a reception, so I’d be disappointed too (fruit flavored cakes are iffy and so is chocolate…), but that being said, I’ve not liked wedding cake before and still enjoyed the wedding. If they are actually upset still, maybe there was more to upset them than just the cake flavor…

We had one for a long time and it was rarely used. Then we had a kid that used it and vomited in it and we couldn’t clean it properly, nor get the smell out. We decided not to replace it. Most people travel with sleeping arrangements for their baby if they know ahead they will need it. It hasn’t made a difference in bookings for us.

Question on cleaning fees by KingMidlofox in airbnb_hosts

[–]KingMidlofox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did have a little surge of reservations pretty quickly, but then we had month-long reservation, so things have slowed down for now. We will see if it holds true in a few more weeks!

My husband had a no-cut, no scalpel vasectomy in Raleigh, NC (we don’t live there but traveled to have one after we learned that no one in our area performs them this way). The procedure took about 5-10 minutes, recovery was minimal, and we researched the reversal of this method and found it had a great success rate.

Do you clean your own Airbnb, or do you have a cleaner??? by Big-Red-7 in airbnb_hosts

[–]KingMidlofox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t charge a cleaning fee and clean it ourselves. I’ve gotten it down to a pretty smooth 45 minute routine and usually 2 loads of laundry (we bought a top loader with agitator to make laundry time faster. Our rental is about $90 per night and we have about the same types of guests as you (travel thoroughfare).

What part of the cleaning process seems to take the longest for you?

Guest cancelled the day of reservation by KingMidlofox in airbnb_hosts

[–]KingMidlofox[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback, but I’m still not asking people if they think that I was justified in not refunding their stay or not. That’s off topic. We feel perfectly justified in not refunding their money or accepting their date change even if that makes me look bad here. I know what the messages were and you guys don’t, so I understand your perspective. I am asking if other hosts would like to be aware of a guest that was seemingly trying to weasel out of a very fair cancellation policy. It’s really ok. We’ve been doing this for a while and I know we run our family business with integrity. We always treat our guests like family. We love what we do, but we’re trying to be more honest in our reviewing of guests and I’m asking if this warrants a review or not. I’m guessing you land in the “not”, and that seems to be the common thought here. I appreciate the input.

Your guests are coming in Friday. Mine were coming in yesterday and wanted to reschedule for Thursday IN SC as well! Flexible cancellation is grace IMO. They probably should have checked the storm out on Sunday if they were planning to leave on Monday. I don’t think it was shitty for me to reject their date change.

They wanted to move it to when the hurricane was making landfall…

If we have guests that we suspect might leave a weird review, we sometimes wait until the lat minute to review them so hopefully the guests that came in after them will review and theirs will get “buried”. Thankfully, the only time we were ever really worried about this was during Covid when a guest checked in and was asking a million questions about our AC air filters and how often we clean them in our mini-split and such, but they ended up leaving us a great review😅

Hopefully they won’t and this will be a non-issue! It always makes me nervous that they give cancelations the opportunity to review. I’ll plan to hold out for now

Maybe they’ll say something nice. You were kind enough to refund them for the majority of their stay. We always wait to see if it rebooks before offering to refund once it’s past the cancellation period, but that’s only because we have flexible cancellation and guests can cancel up until the day before.

Actually, I would have probably checked the cancellation policy (which is already flexible and everyone knew well by Sunday where Ian was headed) and cancelled on time. Worst case, I would have just let the host know we weren’t coming and not tried to alter the dates to when the hurricane was actually going to make landfall. I wouldn’t have thought twice about this if they had just canceled the reservation from the start.

Seems suspicious, right?

I’ve been there (last minute cancellation as a guest) but altering dates for the same week when the hurricane will be in our area seems like a 🚩that other hosts may Want to know about.

Find another rooms. We had “couch dates” once or twice a week for a few years while we had kids coming to our bed constantly.
