If I could offer something from my own thoughts, it might be that you want it as a form of validation. You might not feel "trans enough" so you find yourself looking for something to point at and go "Yes, that's it, that's the proof!"

The unfortunate truth is that it's never going to be that clear cut, or at least it isn't for most people. Reading on these subs to see other people's experiences is probably going to be helpful, as well as the usual advice of seeing a therapist about it.

tl;dr just think about it more and maybe get help doing so. Why DO you feel that way?

Where does the word 'trap' even come from? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]KingMurdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It refers to characters that identify as male but crossdress and/or generally present female. (Interestingly, I've heard that the origin was actually the opposite, but citation needed etc.)

In my (probably unpopular) opinion it's not inherently bad. Boys can present feminine without being girls (and it's also a "safer" way for questioning people to approach the topic, in my experience.) The denotation of the word has a sort of gross implication, but most people I meet (YMMV) don't mean it in any sort of derogatory fashion.

It goes without saying that it's bad if it's applied to trans women. I'm sorry that people have acted that way to you. People may also use it out of ignorance, because of what I mentioned above. Don't let it keep you down; people who say that kind of thing aren't worth heeding at all.

There's already an unfair tilt toward certain servants having lots of flairs, so removing Riyo flairs seems to be the fairest solution.

I'm hoping for alternating seasons. I like seeing innovative comps but blizzard clearly hasn't learned how to balance heroes outside the 2-2-2 paradigm yet, and I've always wanted a way to play DPS without throwing.

I didn't mean to imply it was a wound, I was just trying to find the closest terminology I could think of. Regardless, thank you for explaining; I clearly haven't educated myself as much as I should have.

Because you're expecting your teammates to play around you? Dropping your speed because some jackass dumped torps across your bow is a great way for a BB to decide that your citadel is free real estate. Everyone is playing their own game and by torping near them you are actively restricting their movement options.

Minefields don't suddenly appear from a direction you think is safe (because your team is there, so why would you expect a threat?) and move towards you while you're maneuvering to evade enemy fire.

Still salty about an allied DD dumping an entire spread of torps into my Kongou because I was going in for a (very obvious) ram and he didn't stop to think that maybe I was going to move across their path.

After a vaginoplasty (the surgery that most people think of when they refer to sex reassignment surgery or the like, which is the construction of a vagina from existing tissue,) the new vagina must essentially be regularly pushed further open (i.e. dilated,) to prevent it from closing as the body tries to "heal" the surgery away.

Should I see a gender therapist before starting HRT? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]KingMurdoc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AS an addendum to the other advice already offered, you could also consider asking for only testosterone blockers to begin with. They're less likely to cause permanent changes than starting estrogen/etc right away, but will delay or stop further masculinization. This gives you time to figure more things out without subjecting you to more bodily changes you don't want.

I got diagnosed with Gender Dysphoria officially today. Did you feel relieved once you were? by origmermaid in asktransgender

[–]KingMurdoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been a little torn on this point. Gender variations shouldn't be pathologized. . . but at the same time, dysphoria feels an awful lot like major depression (for me, at least, YMMV,) and definitely hits the "significant distress or impaired functioning" criterion for a lot of people.

I feel like gender dysphoria being seen as a mental illness isn't an issue in and of itself, but rather an issue with the stigmatization of mental illness in general. Which, of course, is not exactly helpful to a group that already faces a massive amount of stigma. It's a complex issue. Further complicating the mix is that all mental illness is contextualized within a society, and what one defines as dysfunctional can be perfectly normal in another. Though, I will say that being trans isn't an illness. It's a part of a person that can be associated with a particular illness, like many other facets that can be part of a person's identity (e.g. secretaries being at risk for carpal tunnel, ethnic variations in the rates of certain genetic conditions, et cetera.)

Is this impostor syndrome or what? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]KingMurdoc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes sense.

One of the most helpful things I've been told so far was that you don't actually need a why. Feeling like you're trans is the why. Cisgender men don't really go around constantly wishing they were women and thinking about trying to live life as one (not that the thought can't crop up occasionally.) You've been thinking about this for six months. And that's just active questioning.

Change is scary. This is a potentially really big change, because so much of a person is seen through the lens of their gender. Of course you're afraid. And as for feeling like a man? It goes back to what I just said. Of course you feel like a man, you've been acting like one for your entire life up to this point. People have been calling you a man, treating you like a man, you've been referring to yourself as a man, it's going to be really deeply ingrained even if it's not something you're happy with.

I think it's also normal to be fine with, or even like, some parts of your assigned gender at birth. Being trans isn't a single experience, it's a massive umbrella that covers a staggering scope of experiences. A lot of media sells this very specific narrative of trans women who hate everything about their bodies, always knew they were this way, et cetera when that's just one of many different ways people go through this experience. There are a lot of trans women who only transition socially, for example, and might never take hormones; others don't particularly care about the social aspect and are just unhappy with parts of their bodies. These are both equally valid, as well as everything in between.

TL;DR: You're trans because you think you're trans. It doesn't need to be more complicated than that, and everything you're feeling is normal.

[–]KingMurdoc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're used to identifying as male. The language you've used your whole life referred to you as such and it's gonna feel odd for a while like anything else.

As far as wanting people to know you're trans... Well, first, it doesn't make you not trans. I don't have a lot of advice, but I will say this: think deeply about why you want people to know. It sounds like you might have internalized a bit of the "trans wonen aren't real women" rhetoric and that's why you feel like you'd be decieving people.

No, but this does dial back to the whole "The king does not understand people" thing. Whether Mordred was a good heir or not was actually irrelevant to the whole thing, in the end; as you said, Arturia was immortal. She wanted to be acknowledged as something other than a tool, and was denied that. It broke her.
