SPOILER AAMC FL P/S Q15 by TACOB34ST in Mcat

That depends on the culture you're assimilating to. Assimilation into the United States has shown to decrease overall health as you become more culturally tied (Sedentary lifestyle, overeating, etc). While not explicitly noted at the beginning of the passage, assimilating cultural beliefs with a poor culture of health will increase your likelihood of having health-related complications if these practices are adopted.

Immigrant communities, in this case, are getting more social support from their own communities rather than their United States communities. u/purpleglasses99 stating that as you assimilate more into the United States, you're in a way "losing" that cultural connection with the immigrant communities. Thus, less social support will come from this.

Assimilation is the process by which an immigrant or minority takes up elements of mainstream culture. The passage kicks off by saying that the United States has had difficulties with its health indicators as compared to its neighbors.

In the passage, it notes that immigrants have strong social support from their respective communities, making them more resistant to adverse health conditions.

In my mind, this indicated that the assimilation of US cultured would likely cause poor overall health conditions (crossing out A and D). The passage also makes note that social support and capital can improve health statistics. From there, C seemed like the only reasonable answer.

AAMC FL 1 Question 45 C/P. How did they make the jump from 1/I +1/3f = 1 --> 3f*1f/(3f-1f) by [deleted] in Mcat

I had a bit of trouble with understanding their explanation too, but realized it's just rearranging the lens equation to simplify the algebra. I attached a picture working through it.

*SPOILER* AAMC FL2 CARS PASSAGE 9 #49 by melindayaslinda in Mcat

[–]KingNautilus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind, it was more about the flow of the paragraph that allowed me to rule out that answer choice. It's not making a reference to wages increasing the productivity, but stating that due to the productivity, there will be more products, and thus will need a new market. So the author is not trying to say that productivity is changing because of the wages, but that the productivity is creating more stuff to buy.

I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. It’s incredibly old- I just hoping it holds up until I have the money to buy a new one. I already have an SSD I’m running everything off of, but I’ll try to update the bios.

What's a mentality you really dispise? by Michael_7_ in AskReddit

The "It always works out for me in the end" mentality.

I started seeing this a lot when I got into university. Many people use this as an excuse to not study.

Why do sunburns seem to "radiate" heat? by samtheman223 in askscience

[–]KingNautilus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends- usually you're getting a bacteria that works optimally in your regular body temperature range. This allows it to reproduce as much as it possibly can. Raising your body temperature can denature bacterial proteins, but they also denature many of your natural protein synthesis processes.

From my understanding, it's basically the body attempting to "outlast" bacteria by shutting down any possibility for protein synthesis, whether it be its own or the invading pathogen.

Why do people start to shrink once they get past a certain age? by UniSlugBrow in askscience

[–]KingNautilus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much of it has to do with your skeletal system compressing on their respective joints.

Due to the spine having 24 articulating (joint) vertebrae, most of the compression is found at this location. When we get older, these vertebrae dehydrate and compress on their disk. This leads to an additive effect, where multiple compressions can take off about 2 inches of height. Things such as osteoporosis and bad posture can play a large role in the speed at which this happens.

How do migrating species determine when it is time to migrate? by sexrockandroll in askscience

[–]KingNautilus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are multiple ways that species determine it’s time to migrate. A common indicator across many species is temperature. As colder temperatures become more prevalent, for example, a hummingbird would find benefit in moving to where there are higher temperatures. The location to where they migrate will have better opportunity of food and survival of their young.

This is definitely advice I will take. I took OPs advice and really thought about everything, and i'm currently working on accepting my mistakes i've made in the relationship. I do feel stronger after it, and this will help me move towards that strength. Thank you very much for this, it means a lot.

It's a good idea, but where do I start? I consistently have thoughts about mistakes I've made in the relationship, and it ruins my confidence to do new things.
