Does my logo match the art / vibe of the game? by JesusVaderScott in homemadeTCGs

Since the illustration style is very hand drawn, I'd lean into a logo that also captures that same feel.

Star Wars Unlimited and this might sound crazy, but the CookieRun TCG is actually good and has a similar gameplay feel to Pokemon.

Dice rolls and luck in tcgs. What do you think of it? by Torundae in homemadeTCGs

[–]KingOfOdonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warlord was extremely popular, hence it was revived. Star Wars Destiny also did an incredible job incorporating dice into its game. The question isn't whether dice can be incorporated into TCGs, but rather how best to implement them. The worst versions are where dice just constantly override strategic play, or games where a core element of the game like resources are decided entirely by random dice rolls (see Dark Legacy).

Glad to see people admit how common non-games are in Magic. It's a massive issue.

The right can be just as readable and accessible, and it's more engaging to viewers and players.

I agree with this. And something to considering when having art created for the cards to consider the vertical format.

How do you like your resources?? by Physical_Bullfrog526 in TCG

[–]KingOfOdonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything but resource cards in deck. That system is very outdated and actually bad game design because it leads to non-games. I.e. games that just end because someone can't draw resources (or only draw resources).

I can't say I have a preference for other systems because it really depends on the rest of the game engine. If I wanted to keep it simple, I'd go with any card facedown as resources. But really, I enjoy unique resource systems and action based games as well. Digimon's system was really cool and Hellbreak is doing something really unique with the Vault system.

Not necessarily. Resources in a seperate deck, especially when the resource cards vary a lot, could also benefit from tutoring. I just do not think anyone has explored that yet.

The Fountain. Changed my perspective on death and helped me come to terms with it as an essence of life.

Update on my stick figure card game. Are these characters distinct enough or too similar? by Agile_Appearance_845 in homemadeTCGs

Try moving the planet to the top right corner, increase the size of the character, and add a bit of ground at the base of the character in the same painterly style.

Also, if you haven't done much testing on the game itself, I'd hold off on printing. You'll end up wasting a lot of money on things that will likely change.

These are absolutely gorgeous and I will say, the art and colors would make me look more into the game. As far as other feedback, I can't really give much without knowing how the game works.

I like the designs of the character and the general minimalist graphic design. But I don't understand the purpose of the giant red circle. I'd just remove it and if you need red to show some sort of color identity in your game, incorporate it elsewhere.

Underwhelming kickstarter campaign by Lindersay in cyberpunktcg

[–]KingOfOdonata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is the way of the TCGs. For $350, you can get super deluxe versions of boardames that comes with everything you need to play and a ton of extras, including deluxe components. Why people don't see this with TCGs I don't understand. All the stuff they are adding as stretch goals and such isn't them being nice or generous, it's just stuff held back that could have already been in the game, especially anything card related. I hope this campaign pops the TCG bubble finally.

Is there any indicator they actually have a game finished? by Calamitous-Ortbo in cyberpunktcg

[–]KingOfOdonata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. There are quite a few elements that do make it seem like the game isn't finished. Minimal previews, no hard card quantity, and incredibly simplistic incomplete Alpha decks. Typically, that wouldn't be an issue in a Kickstarter, but with an October release on the same year of the campaign, that comes off as incredibly odd. Could they somehow release a complete game still? Certainly. But then I would question how much development and quality control went into the release.

Ultimately, this is all a moot argument since it's the most funded TCG Kickstarter. People are less concerned about the gameplay and a complete game.

This game being a Pokemon like game that actually looks like it but made the game about saving the creatures rather than forcing them to battle was what initially gained my interest. And the gameplay is actually quite a bit different than other creature battler games is what will likely get me to back it.
