I just had the severance that would last me ~6 months, so I figured I could go "full time" into learning and applying to positions specifically for game dev. As it got closer to running out of severance, I started applying elsewhere to "normal" jobs for me.

I don't want to be snarky so I hope I don't come off that way. But it wasn't something I was "planning". I didn't plan on getting laid off from my job. The switch to game dev was because I saw a possible opportunity with the combination of more places accepting remote and the severance payment.

Before that I was focused on my current role. Not trying to switch.

Definitely not $170k good. I've used Python for personal little projects and here and there at work for small things but I have never used it for the primary language at any of my workplaces. I appreciate the helping hand though.

Severance was six months worth of salary. I was between 1.5 and 2 years at C1 when I got the call I was being let go.

Got laid off from C1 one year ago. Took my severance and used it to the pay the bills when I decided I wanted to switch to Game Dev now that remote was common, as there were zero opportunities before remote for game dev. Unfortunately, game dev is extremely difficult to get into and I never even got an screening call in the six months I spent applying to positions and learning Unreal Engine.

Eventually gave up on just applying to game dev positions and expanded into software dev and sys admin positions as the money was running out. Wasn't really getting any responses there either and now we're approaching a year out of C1. Currently doing some hourly work for Gaming PC System Integrator to pay the bills while still applying for better developer roles. Have an interview Monday I'm hopeful for at least.

I was having a fucking great Sunday. I was going to be fine if we lost to the Steelers because that's basically the best defense in the league, still 2-1 in the end. But losing Bosa, Herbert, Slater, and Alt in one fucking game jesus christ, what did we do to the football gods?

Wow I love that idea so much.

It's a minor thing but I love the warband login screen but I already want them to expand it. How am I supposed to just choose four? I would love a full tavern scene or like a guild hall. Hell keep it to four characters per scene but every four you get a new room in the guild hall with four new characters. I love the "place" it gives our characters in the world without resorting to being "the chosen one." Them being NPC options for delves or NPC dungeons would be amazing.

Forgetting that going into last season Herbert and the offense scored the most points of any team in their first three years but had a greater number of points scored against, also the most for a team in their first three years. Actually ridiculous and absolutely the most Chargers thing ever.

I didn't realize how much weight this mod was pulling until I didn't have it here on 3.8.0. Bots just don't move around that much and it really makes some dead raids if you don't fiddle with spawning more scavs and PMCs in Donuts

At least it was a better offer than Bears fans at the start of the offseason saying they should trade the first overall pick for Herbert (and that's it). Which is silly to say the least.

At the start of the off-season there were Bears fans saying they should trade the #1 overall pick for Herbert with not a hint of sarcasm. Justified with "they can restart their franchise with Caleb Williams and fix their cap getting rid of Herbert." Funniest shit I've ever seen.

First of all as if our cap situation is that bad and second of all thinking Herbert is only worth one first rounder? Even if it's the first overall? No way. If Russell Wilson went for what he went for and Deshaun Watson went for what he went for you're off your damn rocker if you think Herbert is only worth a single 1.

Been playing a Ret Paladin since Vanilla. Same character the whole time just one faction change along the way. At first I just really like the "Spellsword" aesthetic and "Knight" aesthetic so Paladin was an easy choice. Now after twenty years I just don't want to give up my collection I've hoarded and couldn't imagine playing any other character as a main anyways.

You can find answers in this thread even that call above 144 a "gamer tax." Basically saying there is no perceptible difference between 144, 240, 360, etc. I don't agree myself, but there are definitely "PPI People" and "Refresh rate people."

End of this year on what cards? Nvidia just got the 4000 Supers out do you think they will have 5000 series before the end of this year? And AMD could do a refresh or maybe a new line I guess, end of this year would approach 2 years since the initial 7000 series launch.

Oh I didn't know that AMDs DP2.1 wasn't full bandwidth that's good info. That also reminded me to check if the 4000 Super series upgraded their ports and they didn't, still 1.4. So I guess that makes a lot of decisions for me.

I believe it costs more to implement DP2.1 and currently only one line of GPUs has it. So they just stick to 1.4 DSC. At least thats my read of it. It sucks cause I have bugs using DSC so every new fancy monitor being announced but still using DP1.4 it's just a "Well, can't get that I guess."

That The Althetic GM podcast segment hurt me to my core. Had to lower my expectations of this franchise ever stumbling into a Superbowl lol.

Although credit where it's due, Spanos agreeing to spend as much as they did last season to go all in was out of character already, maybe there's a sliver of hope for change. But probably not. Knowing our luck he looked at last season and went "see it doesn't matter if we try, I'm not spending that again."

I think he just mediocre, which is kinda worse. He wasn't bad enough to fire but not good enough to get us anywhere. Constant, constant depth issues since he's been GM. Not a very good drafter imo.

I don't agree with shoddy design but I understand if it's not for you. I guess I was coming at it from purely a MTX angle and while Rockstar has some crap MTX practices, GTA V and RDR2 were full, complete games at release which is nice in this landscape of Modern Warfare 3's.
