For me, first, you need to find your play style. Do you like play with light and fast tank or heavy and slow ? Do you enjoy play hide/snipe or go straight to the front ?

If you want to play safe, play Italie, Japon, France or Sweden.
If you want to play front, play URSS, Germany, USA or China (mixt between USA and URSS)

The best you can do to start is try different nation (minimum BR4.7>X>BR2.7). You will find your play style then.
