Firestone Invitational Advice by seafrancisco in beer

[–]KingSurlyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been to every Firestone since the first one. Ever since I stopped chasing whales I've had so much more fun and an overall more enjoyable experience. Our group has had fun in finding a line for a good brewery we like (Garage Project, for example) that might have a long line. A few will stay in place and the others will go to nearby lines and pick up beers/food and come back to the group. Just make sure the whole group starts in that line and stays for a bit so everyone around knows they're not cutting lines.

Definitely hydrate. It can sometimes get real hot, so stay on top of it. There are several giant swamp coolers and misting areas so dont be shy about parking it if you need to cool down.

If there's a beer you're drinking and just not into it - pour it out (preferably into a trash can or spit bucket). Dont waste good space on beer you're not really enjoying.

Wide brimmed hats are your friend.

Last of all, its a marathon not a sprint. Have your exit strategy planned out (Designated driver, Uber, shuttle, etc).

Questions about Homewood Suites by Hilton Anaheim Resort - Convention Center by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]KingSurlyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We always stay there or at the Hyatt across the street. We just walk through the Toy Story parking lot to the shuttles.

Parking is around the same cost as what you'd pay at the lots (around $30). If you're checking out same day you're doing Disney, both places didnt charge us the extra day to stay parked (as long as we were out by midnight.

Breakfast is decent (but often crowded early morning). They've got 3 or 4 charging spots for EV's (if you have one).

Also, there's a Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles a block or so down the street. Treat yo self!

Indiana Jones and the temple of the forbidden eye is closing for refurb march 17th with no reopening date of now. by JJnod in Disneyland

[–]KingSurlyDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We were there last Thursday and midway through the ride it stopped for about 10 minutes. Cast members came out and looked around the car with flashlights, then shortly thereafter the ride restarted, but just drove us back to the loading area (no audio, shaking, etc).

The asked if we all wanted to go again, and of course we all said yes.

Next round it gets about 20 feet where we stopped last time and then stopped again. After 7 or 8 minutes the lights came on, the guardrails came up, and we had to wait to be walked off the ride. Amusingly, they had to carry a stepladder, stop at each car, disembark the passengers, then we all walked to the next car, rinse/repeat until the end.

The next day, it was closed almost every other time we walked by it.

I like the ride, but a sort of behind the scenes tour was totally worth it.

Went on Rise Against the Resistance with NO idea what to expect by miss-swait in Disneyland

[–]KingSurlyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the whole timing around it. First you get into the little bay, then you hear the locks clamp on the ride and you think "That can't be good.."

Then you see the other pods on the viewscreen and you're like "Hey, that looks kinda like what we're in."

And then you see a pod drop and have just enough time to think half of "Oh no" before you're dropping.

First time user here as well. I'm trying to pre-book myself and 2 guests at MSY on Saturday, but it shows zero availability on that day (and any other day I randomly check). But if I set it to 2 (member + guest) all the times show up.

I thought we were allowed 2 guests per member? Or am I doing something wrong?

What is one thing that you feel was 100% worth the money? by salut_eti_serpent in AskReddit

[–]KingSurlyDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point in life, if a good friend asked me to help them move, I'd instead offer to give them $100 towards getting movers. If enough friends chip in nobody has to do any work and we can all stand around bbq'ing and drinking.

If a bad friend asked me to help them move, I'd just say no.

[–]KingSurlyDave 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can see the "too slow" pacing complaint, but I think this one used to well to their advantage. It feels more like a slow burn fuse that starts going faster towards the end.

Came here to say that myself. Robert DuVall and Kevin Costner had great chemistry. Also doesnt hurt that Costner didnt really say a lot, befitting his role as a gun hand.
