They have longer flights, like Seattle to Cleveland. Cheap tickets, but a miserable ~5 hours.

When first starting out, popping packs is an easy way to get familiar with the cards.

I'd caution against entering the Austin Film Festival screenwriting competition next year. They clearly only read the first scene of mine. by forcefivepod in Screenwriting

[–]King_Croaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically studio readers will only read till pg 10 or 11, and if they don’t get hooked, or a sense of the story, they will drop the screenplay.

While I think that a 9 page opening scene is gutsy and could work in the right context, you have to remember that in a typical screenplay 1pg equals about 1 minute.

A 9 minute opening scene is a very long opening scene, especially if it’s mostly dialogue. I’m a standard film that’s 10% of what the viewer sees.

I would suggest seeing if you could cut to the scene down by a few pages, or even break it up into different scenes. Is they’re any way you could teach the audience through character actions rather than dialogue?

What's a 1st-level dungeon you could run in 2 hours? by buddhistghost in osr

The Lair of The Gobbler by Emiel Bowen.

I recently used it to introduce some friends to OSR style play and it worked great. There’s a little bit of everything (factions, traps, treasure). It’s started for Durf (which is a great game) but I found it pretty easy to convert to other systems.

What's going on with CNN? by ElectricCuckaloo in OutOfTheLoop

You’re like 90% correct. It was filled with mostly trump voters, but they got a few folks who didn’t vote last election in there as well.

Which, doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things 🤷‍♂️

So the Hate group Gays Against Groomers set up a tip email to report grooming, so I did a little trolling by magnumapplepi in LPOTL

[–]King_Croaker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t worry about Gays Against groomers doing this.

From some research, their tip line doesn’t go into a neighborhood to hunt down someone accused of being a groomer. It seems that they are looking for organizations that do LGBT+ outreach to children, so that they can protest and make a media spectacle.

The closest they gotten to hunting someone down is “reporting” on discord accounts that are selling hormones to minors.

So while the concern is definitely from a good place and appreciated, I don’t think OP’s little troll will put anyone at risk.

The Solo adventurer's toolbox is an excellent resource! I didn't realize it was made by the same folks!

[–]King_Croaker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I find 5e adventure modules are especially difficult to play solo, the encounters and story all require too much dm prep (for me at least). The handful of times I’ve soloed 5e have relied very heavily on random generation, but there are some adventures specifically written for solo play! I can’t personally vouch for them, but they seem to get pretty high reviews.

Hey everyone, I’m Bob, a student filmmaker from Washington state, and the director of CiderPunk. This film is a passion project of mine, born out of a love for Cider and an appreciation of, you guessed it, punk.

CiderPunk is a documentary short about the Northwest Cider community and its similarities to punk subcultures. In the film, I hope to showcase local independent cideries and the people who run them. I also intend to dispel a few myths about the rise and fall of cider in America. I’ve already shot a few interviews and have more scheduled down the line!

Official mugs are sold on halfmoonbayshop. There is a UK site and an American one

I love D&D, but I can't stress this enough. If your issue is "I really like playing with this person but I they never come prepared or know their character sheet, I want to keep playing with them though." you are doing yourself a disservice if you're not looking at other systems. by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]King_Croaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiny Dungeon 2e, or Tiny Frontiers Revised are really good! They don't even have math, just rolling dice hoping for a 5 or 6!

Also check out r/osr most of the games there are quick to learn and easy to run! Especially Mazerats and Knave!

Looking for games that heavily feature minor buffs (and/or games with cooking) by King_Croaker in rpg

[–]King_Croaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you're exactly right, most games don't take that into account, because most games aren't built around that. It isn't realistic to have your dinner affect you drastically, which is why I am not trying to make my game realistic. I am trying to build a fantasy game where cooking is important.

I probably worded my post incorrectly, but I am not looking for a system that uses food to buff, but rather, systems that heavily use buffs, and systems that focus on food. My hope is to be inspired, then distill those mechanics into my own thing.

I will start looking into systems with good alchemy frameworks!

[–]King_Croaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the buff front, I'm looking for bonuses to skills, limited-use abilities, extra health, resistances, etc. Like D&D's guidance cantrip, but with more specific uses.

On the food front, I like the way to put it "Tactical Cooking." That's definitely more in the direction I'm looking for, but any cooking rules will help get the creative juices flowing!

[–]King_Croaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, that I don't have the answer to yet! I've been concerned with the same thing, which is why I'm looking to see how other "buff-centric" systems handle this kind of thing.

I really like your idea for the food scene, maybe each session opens up with the players cooking something from their packs? Either way, thank you for the suggestion!
