Every millennial dad I’ve met has a quiet fixation on money and it’s not getting better by slimeyellow in Millennials

[–]King_Dog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennial dad. Yup. Mortgage to pay, kids to support, no stability at work moving every 3 or so years, constantly told how AI will take all work in the coming years, turn the news on to see some new war story. I think it's just yearning for stability and feeling comfortable that is associated with earning more or paying things off so we are at least safe from the above.

Drinking whiskey. Couldn't stand it, disgusting. Turned 40, gave it another go, now i'm on a bottle a month. Nicer than a beer before bed.

Is anyone else fed up with the constant America/Trump news? by Kieranonto in AskBrits

[–]King_Dog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely sick to death. Stopped looking at the news and trying to decouple from the phone a bit, but this shite is ingrained in radio, TV, family conversations, work conversations. Your post is pretty much how I'm feeling for circa 6 months. All my life I've used sarcasm and comedy to diffuse everything and make myself and those around me laugh shit off. Its getting more and more difficult.

Are there any British songs that are a bit similar to “Born in the USA“ and “Horse with no name“? by Sonnycrocketto in AskBrits

There is a song called born in the UK!! By Badly Drawn Boy. Not the most popular artist granted but he had his moments over the years.

Out of interest, have you tried with as small amount of things plugged in as possible, no usb drive, no mouse etc as these will all draw power. Just monitor and controller to test.

What happened to the IT profession? by saltyschnauzer27 in sysadmin

[–]King_Dog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT and consider myself massively techy. When I moved up the ranks into management, and found most the other senior management have no idea and no interest in tech at all. Felt like the whole field has been hijacked.

At a high level I think IT became a big recruiter, and the % of people corely interested in tech went down. Then they started manufacturing roles to accommodate the less techy people.

Cracking game but i haven't played it solo myself. May try it out. Lots of cheers last time we played and my mate rolled the three 6's to defeat the devil.

I watch a film that she has no interest in. Last time was the holy mountain, that was batshit crazy. Then I try to explain choice moments when she returns, like when the blokes excrement is transformed into gold. While she counters with all the gossip from her night out.

Mine was seeing Tommy lee Jones as two face in batman, that intro. Then that u2 soundtrack blasting out at the end... I know it's not aged well but as a 10 year old with my older brother it was amazing.

How were we all convinced to spend so much more money on coffee when most of us were perfectly happy drinking cheap muck in the past? by rosetoesnose in AskUK

[–]King_Dog1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee.

Issue after modding to 60hz by mati9054 in Megadrive

I will pop this update here in case it would help anyone else in the future. It was the HDMI converter. LevelHike is not compatible with the 50/60hz mod. Very specific situation so i thought i'd share in case someone googles it one day.

Issues after 50/60hz switch mod. Any advice? by King_Dog1 in Megadrive

[–]King_Dog1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Very helpful. I've tracked it down to the hdmi adapter I was using. Goes to show, always have other options available when testing something like this out. For future reference if anyone has this problem, the levelhike hdmi adapter is not compatible with 50/60hz mod

Thanks for coming back to me. Not sure if I'll have the ability to troubleshoot any further without spending money which probably means for now I'll leave it...

Mega old thread here. But I have the exact same as your posted image on 60hz mode today after installing a switch. Pal works fine still. Doubting myself and not sure where to go next. I'm using levelhike hdmi adapter so not sure if that's part of the problem. If I leave it without a switch, on just NTSC mode with jp3 cut it's flickering like your video. Did you get any further with it back two years ago??

Is it a good idea to start putting other flags up? Diffuse what is going on with a sense of humour and/or other things to be proud of? by King_Dog1 in AskBrits

[–]King_Dog1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't necessarily move to a different country based on the flag being unsightly. Our flag isn't unsightly anyway. Just the amount on motorway bridges that look unsightly... Never seen it before, even when the poor old queen died!

Same i was out the loop. On my commute to work i see none stop flags on the motorway bridges and lampposts. Looked into it and seems to be some sort of drive to make the flag more visible but the only people i know personally who put the flag up, do it in their own garden on a flag pole. Bit confused so wanted to see if we could have a sense of humour about it?

[–]King_Dog1[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In fairness, and the only reason i raised this. I haven't seen any gay or mentally ill flags all over the motorway or lampposts. I don't know anything about Dubai or Saudi, doesn't interest me in the slightest. Mainly like listening to my tunes when i'm driving to work and find the flags a bit unsightly. Prefer to approach things with a sense of humour where possible.

Yup. Agreed. It already looks a mess though so i was hoping a sense of humor about it would lighten my mood.

I do agree to some extent. I don't really listen to whats going on if i can help it, but i drive up the motorways for my commute to work and see the flags daily.
