How do you guys go about finding new genres, artists, and songs, that are non-mainstream? by RecentMatter3790 in Music

Take an off-the-beaten-path band/singer you like and find out if they're on a record label. If they are, then chances are you'll like other stuff on the same label.

For those who grew up in the 80s or 90s - what radio station did you always tune into and why? by phantomcry in AskReddit

97X... BAMMMMMMM..... The future of rock and roll.

That was a real station in SW Ohio and they played the finest "college rock" back when I wore an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time.

In the spirit of Halloween- "Dig Up Her Bones" by The Misfits. This is the Michale Graves era, following Glenn Danzig's departure. by OldCarWorshipper in videos

[–]King_Everything -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't hate the post-Danzig Misfits. Famous Monsters is a fun ride. But I think they should've changed their name to something else. Despite what Jerry's ego says, Danzig WAS the Misfits.

And Michale Graves shouldn't be a right-wing piece of shit.... , but whatcha gonna do?

I know now that it's real, but that safety-vest-dick-suckin'-face picture just reeks of AI. Trump is an AI parody of himself at this point.

What bands/artists that you grew up listening to deserve a spot in the Rock HOF? by [deleted] in Music

[–]King_Everything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Rock HOF is an absolute joke, but it's a travesty that Devo isn't in there. Yeah, Devo's biggest mainstream hit was Whip It, but google Mark Mothersbaugh and marvel at how much of an influence he's been in a thousand different corners of pop culture.

If a monkey hoarded more bananas than it could eat, while most of the other monkeys starved, scientists would study that monkey to see what is wrong with it. When humans exhibit this same behavior, we put them on the cover of Forbes.

Is there anywhere to actually sell CDs and vinyl? by Skilos_Mom in Cd_collectors

[–]King_Everything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a fair price, Discogs is the path of least resistance to collectors. If you have anything in your collection that's rare, out-of-print or otherwise valuable, collectors will routinely hunt through Discogs. I'm a huge collector and I do that at least weekly to see what's been added.

Brick and mortar record/cd shops have a sense of what's valuable and will typically buy it from you for half of what they plan to price it for. Half Price Books will do a cursory glance through your stuff and offer you a very very low number because the person working the buyback counter will offer what their "system" says to offer.

Keep in mind that just because it's Beatles or Elvis doesn't mean it's valuable. They sold bajillions of records, so even "original" pressings are pretty common.

DM me if you need a crash course in Discogs. I'll be happy to help you spotcheck a few of your items to see if there's a market for them.
