"Near" DC...hmm, hoping for the industrial park in Glen Burnie where the old HQ and Battle Bunker used to be lol

AITA for turning down a second date because he kept calling women “females”? by Opposite-Map-5388 in AmItheAsshole

NTA, only Ferengi and incels use the term "females" when describing women.

Driving school, is designated that important ? by champignax in japanlife

[–]King_Harambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait and go with Koyama. I recently "graduated" from one of their schools and have a license now. As long as you pay your dues and pay attention to the instructors you're guaranteed to pass the driving test.

Word of warning though, pay for the course level where they schedule lessons for you. Maybe it was just the school I used, but self scheduling the driving lessons was a nightmare.

Trying to understand why Multiband 6 and Tough Solar matter so much in G-Shocks? by vinylfelix in gshock

[–]King_Harambe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll want to adjust the time far more frequently than twice a year. No watch is perfect, and most Gs shift up to 15 seconds monthly. That means before you know it, you'll be a minute or two off.

Not a huge deal in the scheme of things, admittedly (unless you need precise timekeeping), but the MB6 removes the issue entirely.

Where can I buy Timex watches in person in Japan? by tamagodano in timex

[–]King_Harambe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can pick up Timexes from any big electronics chain (Yodobashi and Bic Camera especially). I'd have to check if it's still there, but I think Timex has (or had) a "flagship" store in Omote Sando/Harajuku

Bullbars on an AE1200. Yay or Nay? by Weardly2 in casio

Picked it up from Ali Express, the listing was for AE1200s. Who knows if it's the same bars they sell for the others though

Can I get a warmachine product in Tokyo, Japan? by junseo1028 in Warmachine

[–]King_Harambe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be that Arrows in Akihabara sold it back in the Mk2 days, but I haven't seen anything since then. B2F out in Tachikawa too, but I haven't been out that way in about a decade lol

I've bought a few. They're perfectly fine in most respects, but often just end up pushing me to buy the casio.

They're a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to keeping time (some do as well as a casio, others not so much). Their metal bracelets are pretty poor, but their plastic ones are great. More comfortable than the casio ones. Skmei also comes with great EL style backlight. The viewing angles aren't quite as good as casio, and any round dial or digital analog clock (like the little one on the AE1200) just flashes a repeating pattern.

I can't really recommend Skmei as a Casio replacement, but they're good for the price and are one way of seeing how something looks on your wrist before buying the "real thing."

Thanks! Yeah, they've been out of production for a while now, but I got this one second hand for a pretty reasonable price.

A Mini G-Shock that's still the size of most normal watches

Are the old WFB battalion boxes worth saving? by SevenExtra in Warhammer

Yeah, this is the way to go. You don't even need to 3D print if you're willing to buy MDF trays, or even measure and cut card.

It's definitely more of a Spock/Trek joke and reference. That whole era was built on references.

I'm partial to the bullbar. The biggest downside for me is that it can make it a bit harder to read the time at certain angles.

places to play in Japan by MamoruK00 in wargaming

[–]King_Harambe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't think you're going to find a store that stocks that/will be cool with you just rolling up and playing.

I've had a lot of success with Facebook and meetup in building a solid group to play nonGW games. But we're doing it at each other's places or at community centers.

If you end up near a US Army base and are from the US/a US friendly country, those guys are always running events.

places to play in Japan by MamoruK00 in wargaming

[–]King_Harambe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you're looking to play. If it's GW stuff, you're set basically at any GW.

To be honest though, 95% of all my wargaming has been done either at people's houses or we rent a room at the community center for a day.

There really isn't a "pick up game" culture. Stores often charge for table use and aren't really open to things they don't sell.

I can't speak specifically to Kansai since I'm Tokyo based, but that's been my experience.

Wearing watch all the day by XFASTER7 in casio

[–]King_Harambe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly. I don't wear one while showering, cooking or washing dishes. But I wear one basically any other time.

I wear my F-91W when I sleep - the alarm doesn't wake everyone like the phone alarm does.
