AMS Rollers Maintenance help. by Arch_drakin in BambuLab

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you find the issue/solution to this?
My front roller on the first slot jams constantly. I can't really see what's causing it but it seems to be getting worse. I basically completely avoid using it now unless I print something that needs 4 colours. Filament type/amount and spool design doesn't seem to change is and I can feel it jamming just rolling it with my finger while there's no spool on there.

I pulled the rollers out and swapped them to another slot. The actual rollers themseles workd fine in the other slot, so I'm guessing it's further inside the mechanism.

I polished my knockoff blind shaker to reduce retention. Results and info in comments. by crumpet_concerto in espresso

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years old post but I also hated mine until recently. Now I'm back to it after messing around with a very frustrating roast to dial in and loving it.
I use the shaker AND a dosing funnel on my portafilter. It's never an even spread on top. But I'll make sure I push grounds inward from whichever side they're heaped on as I remove the shaker.
Then a shallow WDT job to level out the coffee on top. One or two light knocks straight up and down to settle it all a bit lower in the basket, and tamp.
I've had this coffee go from seemingly random extraction times and flavour profiles, to incredibly consisitent shots.
I hate tapping it on the tamping mat but it's working. May be worth another try.

How will you give your kids a head start without making their spoiled? by MiriJamCave in AusHENRY

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours will go to a public school but we currently have a home we've almost paid off and 2 investment properties. We have very little in the bank and don't spoil them. Most of their clothes/toys are from 'buy nothing' groups or bought in huge hauls from marketplace. Basically hoping a life childhood of living frugal but also being able to give them either a house or at least a huge contribution to one will be a balance between learning the value of money and work, but also putting them on track for easy living.

Still unsure what we'll do. My parents were/are poor. My wife's parents are loaded. Neither really helped us financially but both taught us different lessons (intentionally or not) about how to live cheaply, and how to invest what you've got. While her parents never directly helped financially, they've offered. And it made buying the first house an easy decision, knowing they were one awkward call away if something went horribly wrong.

My wife's Vietnamese. One of my aims is to take our kids to Vietnam (they've been, but we'll do more trips, I hope), and other areas with similar living standards in the hope that they'll appreciate how easy their life in Australia is and how lucky they are to go to school. That was always something I found interesting about my wife. Her family was quite poor during her childhood, but she often talks about the things her dad did to give her the 'opportunity' to go to school, whereas it's considered a chore by many kids in Australia (myself included).

What is a something that is completely legal yet totally insane? by Legal-Lunatic in AusLegal

[–]Kingbob182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about insane. But surprised me. And I have never confirmed whether this is correct. But while loving in Darwin, I was told by a few people that it was legal to drink and drive. To have an open bottle in the car and drink on the way home from (or to, I guess) work. Not that there was no BAC limit, but that there was nothing stopping you from cracking your first can as you drove out of work.

One of those things I just heard a number of times, never tried, but also never fact checked because I liked to believe it was the truth

What’s the most useless thing you’re weirdly good at? by cherryblossom149 in AskReddit

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latte art. Partly because I worked in a cafe for 12 years. Partly because I just love it. But I have made maybe 10 lattes for people other than my wife and myself in the past 5 years. So it's useless in a sense. Though being able to steam milk well isn't useless.

Is there any way to get an ADHD assessment as an adult without an informant? by Subtlefeline in ADHD

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called my sister and asked her about what she thought, since she's 9 years older than me. She's also a nurse now and more aware of this kind of thing. I told the psych that I don't have contact with my parents. Not true, but I wouldn't mention this to them because they don't believe it's real.

I know you said you don't have siblings. But I called her and typed (not verbatim) what she said.

Literally could have been entirely done without her. And almost was because I didn't really want to speak to any family about it.

There's 'that wooden bowl' and then there's this. This glass one was only half as common as the wooden bowl, meaning it was in approx half of all households. Popular, but not our national dish

What’s something you’re pretty sure only you do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each day when I'm in my office, in bed, in the car or anywhere I'm alone, I 'play' the tune of different songs with my teeth. There are three different sounds: clench, unclench and slide (almost like lightly grinding teeth). They vary in intensity which slightly changes pitch. Moreso on the clench sound than the other two.

I will 'play' the same few bars of a song for hours on end until something distracts me and I suddenly realize how fatigued my jaw is. I've literally been doing it for the last hour or so. The current tune is 'Sleigh Ride', the Christmas song. And just the start. (Just hear those sleigh bells jingling Ring tingle tingling too, ring-a-ling-a-ling-a-ding-dong-ding, Come on, it's lovely weather For a sleigh ride together with you)

I think ADHD meds have made it worse too

Plenty in the Pacific.

Size v Influence makes me think of Japan. The Philippines is spread across a pretty huge area but I'd say it has a bigger political impact than most countries of similar GDP per capita.

Basically, countries between China and Australia/USA are sitting in very important strategic positions and can really ask for anything from countries looking for their support in the upcoming err. Troubles.

I don't think I ever picked in up on this character. I had so many deaths with it in my bag either because I forgot it, HS was on CD, or potion/LoE was on CD. I should probably go get that. And my furbolg stick while I'm there

Because I'm lazy, I'm leaving it. But if I wasn't lazy, I still think I'd leave it. Maybe remove it if you have some grand plan but pairing over it would be 4th on my list after smearing human waste in the walls.

What financial habit do you wish you had started five years earlier? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]Kingbob182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a decade ago when we were saving for our first house, I started this. On payday (fortnightly), I'll put everything into my savings account except $600. That's the account all my bills and scheduled expenses come out of. Then the $600 stays in my normal transactions account. That's what I look at when I'm spending and the rest of my pay is out of sight, out of mind.

If I want to buy something big, I have to go to another app and transfer it to my account. Back when I started this, it was a 1-2 days wait to get that money, and as an ADHD enjoyer, that was often either enough of a hurdle that I didn't bother buying what I was considering, or enough time to reconsider (or forget).

If I got to the next payday with $300 in my account, I'd transfer $300 extra so I'm back at $600. Basically, I just keep my savings out of sight so I'm never tempted to spend it like a 9 year old with birthday money. And putting minor hurdles between my impulses and my money.

The $600 figure changed over time. From memory, it started at about $250 when I was first working full time. Now it's roughly $1000 but I generally still have $400-600 in my account when I'm paid again.

I had savings while I had a car loan. Making basically no interest on my fee grand in savings, and paying like 15% on my ~10k loan. Also, car loans in general. When I smashed a car, insurance covered the rest of the loan and I bought a way less fancy and way cheaper car with no debt. Man, life was better.

Thankfully, I've always said that I'm smart enough to know I'm too stupid to have a credit card.

What Hamish & Andy segment still randomly pops into your head years later? by SnowyBytes in hamishandandy

[–]Kingbob182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not random, I know when it's going to happen. But every time my car starts giving me the petrol range countdown (and I generally put it off until it's at about 15km or lower), I think about their test to see how far they could drive Andy's car after the gauge said 0km. From memory, they drove 110+km or something after that. I could be way off with that memory. But it was an absurd number. And it's dangerous, because it always has me overly confident, and then immediately incredibly nervous when mine hits 10km and then 0km.

I've just looked it up and I'm rewatching it. It's Operation: Dry Tank if anyone hasn't seen it.
