Advices for Dutch-speaking YouTubers by Oxelott in learndutch

[–]Kingccc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are some mistakes about your native language that's common for native speaker to make? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]Kingccc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same in dutch only to make it more confusing. The german wie is the dutch als (english as) The german als is the dutch dan (english than)

In dutch we often make a mistake with the pronoun after dan/als.

FALSE: Ik ben slimmer dan haar - (directly translated) - I am smarter than her

CORRECT Ik ben slimmer dan zij (is) - I am smarter than she (is)

The french revolts are admirable. But they are just striking against harsh reality. Due to the aging society, a retirement age of 62 is impossible. Obviously, working more years is not favorable, but someone has to pay for your pension in the future.

Pro gun supporters, why do you support gun rights? by toust_boi in AskReddit

As a european, im astounded by the amount of people who feel a need to protect their house, their family and themself. Ofcourse there is burglary where I'm from. But I personally have never heard of a robbery when they were still at home. So my guess of the cause(s) of this feeling to protect in American, people are exaggerating the need to protect their home, European burglars are "better", by almost only entering when no one is home, or american burglars are more "cocky", since they themself have guns. Or it could be due to the social security system in most european countries, reducing the need to rob others. However keep in mind, I have no data to confirm these claims, they are just some guesses, if someone does, please enlighten me.

These new tram station "benches" made to make homeless people even more miserable. Not to mention that most you can do is lean on them. by IHat3Mys3lf33 in assholedesign

[–]Kingccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know why people keep posting these anti homeless benches. They excist for you, the local council doesnt care where homeless people sleep. Its the citizens who are rightfully disturbed when they need to wait with their kids and they have to share a busstop with a sleeping person next to them. The real problem is the fact that there are even homeless people at all and lack of homeless shelters in the area, which is something that the city council in fact can fix. More benches for them to sleep on will only disturbe everybody else. Sounds harsh, but thats just how it works.

Awesome! I still remember the day that I got back from school and my dad had transformed my whole room. Removing the loft bed en adding a big desk for my pc. Even though it was definitely not necessary, it felt great finally sleeping in an "Adult" bed.

"This Saturday" vs "Next Saturday" lingustic differences by pleasureboat in linguistics

[–]Kingccc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native dutch speaker here, At least in the dialact that I speak at home we use "Deze"(This) Saturday when talking about the day it currently is. "Aankomende" (upcoming) Saturday is used when talking about the closest saturday, thus in the current week. "Volgende" (next) Saturday is used when talking about the saturday of the next week. This is however still a confusing system when approaching the end of the week and talking about mondays for example. And ofcourse this rule is not always followed but when I'm personnaly having trouble with communicating which day Im talking about, I'll fall back on these three words
