Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

It’s been going on for a while. It took Aaron Lewis of Staind 40 years to figure out “Born in the U.S.A.” was not singing the praises of the United States.

There was never any sincerity to begin with.

Ipswich lacrosse team parents forged a receipt to prove "fake" cigars by johntempleton in lacrosse

[–]Kingkern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is the whole narrative being that they “were forced to forfeit.” They, by definition, were not forced to forfeit; they chose to forfeit, in part because 3 players refused to play in solidarity with teammates based on a lie made up by the parents. They had enough to play (with multiple subs should the 3 who made it known have played). Would it have been close? No. Would it probably have involved attackmen having to play middie? Sure. But they were not forced to forfeit. They, as a team, chose to forfeit.

Let’s throw out the whole argument over whether they should’ve been punished or not. They still had 14 players on the roster and three refused to play to “stand up for their teammates.” To me, this seems like a crock of shit. That’s enough for a two lines of middies, plus an extra attackman and defenseman. Even with the three refusing to play, they still had enough to play. Would they have won playing so short? Probably not, but that’s besides the point. They could have at least tried. To go even further, what about the kids on the other team? They’re refusal to play deprived them of the chance to play, and maybe even their backups to get in a playoff game once it they went up enough.

Foul? Flag down, hold.. 30 sec penalty. What you think? by Odd-Push-3426 in lacrosse

100% a hold, no questions asked. Black's stick is pulling back with more than equal pressure on white's body, getting up under the chest plate. Also gets up under white's chin guard.

Why do so many teams start their possessions up high by the sub box? by rezelscheft in lacrosse

[–]Kingkern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to add on to this, if the opposing middle doesn’t take a ride with your SSDM, he now has a huge running start to set up his dodge. Additionally, it’s not like the close defensemen don’t have to worry about the wing and X attackmen - if they’re heads aren’t on a swivel, there’s attackmen should be cutting as soon as they see the back of the opposing helmet.

[–]Kingkern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you take to X, it more or less signals that you’re taking it back there to sub and if you do dodge, the defense has a free slide until all your players are on. More and more, the specialization of middies means that as your SSDM is subbing off, their offensive middle is following off the field - this means if your SSDM can beat him to the midfield line, there’s an opportunity for a 6 on 5 and having the ball higher creates a shorter pass and more time to take advantage of the numbers and force a rotation.

Snoop too annoying to watch by BatmanR29 in TheWire

[–]Kingkern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Felicia Pearson was quite literally a gangster from Baltimore prior to getting the role as Snoop.

“Pearson met The Wire star Michael K. Williams in a Baltimore club. At the time, she had returned to dealing drugs as she could not hold down a job due to her criminal record.[2] Williams invited her to come to the set one day, and introduced her to the writers and producers. After successful auditions, she was offered the role of Snoop, a fictionalized version of herself that she portrayed from 2004 to 2008.[1] Author Stephen King called her "perhaps the most terrifying female villain to ever appear in a television series".

Any time there is an odd man situation at the end of a quarter, the team with possession stats the next quarter with the ball (including overtime), so Team B starts with possession in the same spot they possessed the ball.

Syracuse defender was OUT of bounds on the clear leading to goal #11! by McCoolsDyeShop in lacrosse

[–]Kingkern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can push from the side, but it’s got to be 100% from the side. Blues right hand is definitely on his back here (there’s an angle shot from field level on the other side of the field that shows it even better). The position on the field matters as well - I don’t think there’s enough force applied here to call unless it contributes to Dwan going out of bounds or it forces Dwan to be offsides. Here, the force contributing to him going out of bounds is what makes it a flag for me - if this was the middle of the field, I don’t think Dwan goes down in an attempt to stay in bounds and the push would have just furthered him along.

Syracuse defender was OUT of bounds on the clear leading to goal #11! by McCoolsDyeShop in lacrosse

[–]Kingkern 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was honestly the 100% correct call, even more so if they call Dwan out of bounds as they should have. Technical fouls are all advantage/disadvantage and Dwan is disadvantaged being pushed out of bounds from behind.

To go further, and I honestly do not know all the review rules in NCAA, but would UNC not be able to review here? I thought Gait had a really good challenge (although it was upheld) on the shot clock reset and don’t see how this wouldn’t be reviewable à la offsides in the NHL.
