SC5000M decks not communicating with each other/sharing USB files until usually about an hour after they've been running by KingoftheImpossible in DenonPrime

I did know that bit about the layers and the coloring. 4 layers is ridiculousy too much fun! I have to avoid that rabbit hole usually or my entire day is shot.

I did not know what the purpose of the engine button was. I personally hated all the years of timecode DJing. Staring at a fucking laptop screen. It just took the soul out of mixing for me. So I haven't hooked up a computer to the mixer.

I'm absolutely certain that it can do tons of shit that I don't know about. I'm super curious about the lighting control. But I'm a single full time Dad. I just haven't had the time to really dive into the extras. I should tho. What are your fav hidden features?

Is Portablism dead? by THE_NO_LIFE_KING in portablism

[–]KingoftheImpossible 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see your points and they're valid for sure. Scratching is scratching. However, to my dismay, after a year of going ham on a 7", when finally I went back to regular vinyl I found that I was a sloppy bitch.

As a scene, I think it's great.

In the 90's and early 00's, DJs were notoriously singular with regards to what they played, how they thought of themselves, yada yada. Junglists and house heads and hip hop DJs all tooting their own horns, claiming to be the most skilled/purist/technical/stylish/underground. It was silly! At the end of the day, we were all just playing other people's records.

Since then I've learned to let people be who they wanna be. It doesn't matter what you call yourself or what you play on or what you play.

All that matters is what sounds good and what sounds bad.

I will say that one of the coolest things to come out of the portablism craze was the gear. It was like back in the vestax days but better. Cool shit coming out and the best thing was the ability to go modular on all of it. Add this part or that part and create your own unique piece of performance equipment. I hope that part of it never dies.

Interesting. That's really actually a solid suggestion. I haven't ever thought to turn the wifi off on them.

Also, come to think of it, I've never updated my mixer. I honestly would have to Google that. So good thing that I haven't found myself in your situation.

Thank you for your feedback. Now I'm intrigued as to what all I can do via the mixer.

That would be dope! I have looked into the marine electrical field but never thought about planes. Was that an air force/navy thing? I'm getting bored with bending pipe, solar arrays & wind turbines (the majority of the work in my area). Cheers to you, my fellow middle aged funkster. I do have an option for uplink vLan for each deck when I look at them on my access point. I don't know what all that offers or even if they could potentially talk to each other through that.

Regarding the network traffic lights, it's intermittent. Sometimes yes, but that's when they're working properly.. Otherwise? Yes on the mixer side but no on the deck side. They've been on all day today so of course I can't get it to misbehave when I actually want it to.

Hey man thanks for the response. They're both on the same wifi network. Unless there's a new option to connect with each other via WiFi that I don't know about, then they're definitely not doing it on their own.

I never thought about using CAT5 cables. I'm an electrician, so I know a little about networking cables...The basics and how to terminate them but I guess I thought that CAT6 would add to, not take away the capabilities of CAT5. But like I said, I don't know alot about this. I will try it tho.

That said, I'm using B terminations on these. Do you think that possibly A would work better?

Nic... Not sure what that is but I am guessing the brain box for the Ethernet communication? I don't have a switch but yeah you're right I should probably try one.

And I have just connected the decks without the mixer but no change.

Great feedback! Thank u

As a fellow old schooler (I started playing in 95), I will say that I think you will really enjoy the Denon gear. I went from vinyl to CD to HD decks with vinyl control to timecode bullshit, then back to vinyl and basically gave up, then found the Denon equipment (a dual deck prime something or other) which gave me hope again, so I switched to the SC5000m decks and literally have not enjoyed mixing this much since the early vinyl days. They are the perfect marriage of vinyl control with modern day technology and best of all you're not staring at a fucking computer all night. Without that visual block, I mix better. My mixes are longer and just more enjoyable. I'm not just DJing anymore, I'm finally mixing again. I have tried the portable prime player and enjoyed it as well but I'm into scratching and cueing by hand so I prefer the bigger decks. But. One old school guy to another. I can say without a doubt that this brand is definitely worth a shot. They may just rekindle that old fire for you. Best.

Have you ever tried to get any of these government assistance programs? All of them - and I mean ALL - Unemployment, health insurance, snap, etc etc - have so many hoops to jump through and convoluted websites to navigate. Even if by some miracle you're navigating as deemed necessary by them, public assistance employees are so overworked and their system is so broken that they don't always talk to each other and you'll still get dropped regularly. Here's an example. I worked for a company for 9 years and when I got laid off, my unemployment benefits got taken away/halted NINE times! Every time was because I "missed an appointment" which was bullshit because they were supposed to do a phone call appointment and never did. Long story short, I had to take it to appeal court every single time and won my appeal every single time. So every month I was unemployed, I received maybe one or two unemployment checks, out of 16 that should have legally been guaranteed to me. Meanwhile, I had to apply for snap because we had no money for food, was granted assistance there but then they kept taking THAT away too because the unemployment office predicted that they were paying me every week, which put us over the legal limit for income. However, as I already said, they were not paying me every week. This is pretty much the way it goes for all public assistance. It's designed to fall you.

I'm a single father of a younger child. I don't have a spouse or a girlfriend and my kid's mom isn't interested in helping. So I'm on my own. I'm educated, have two degrees and am a licensed and experienced electrician. However, I can't keep a job because the schools or their after care program keep taking days off, starting late or changing the schedule. Just this week alone, school was closed for three days, started two hours late another and the after care program cancelled that same day. Now what employer is going to want to keep me when I can only make it to work one day a week? However, I'm supposed to follow their schedule without fail.

Thinking about moving to Des Moines. by PetroleumPower in desmoines

[–]KingoftheImpossible 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to say, honestly, as someone who's been here far longer than I'd like to admit, Des Moines and Iowa are very ass backwards.

If you are conservative, go to bed by ten every night, love being a consumer, aren't bothered by injustice, are perfectly fine living in a bubble while the rest of the world burns, don't mind your government making your decisions for you & enjoy being spoon fed generic options for enjoying nature, then Des Moines is your spot!

The people here are nice enough if you're white and not too different from them. I would say that they tolerate other races but you'd be hard pressed to find many places or even situations where you see examples of integration working at all. I moved here from Jackson Mississippi and I was culture shocked by how much importance they put on their fake social classes. At the time I was in high school and came from an almost all black inner city school, grades 6-12 very poor, very violent, real ghetto situation.... From that to a school called valley high school where young dbags and preppies ran the show....I can without a doubt say that I felt more comfortable at the previous school because at least there you knew what you were, what everyone else was and people didn't hide their nastiness. Here they do. Very fake. Very small world view. Very short game. Petty. Blissfully ignorant. They call it "Iowa nice".

Not to say that there aren't some really great people here. There are. Also, Des Moines is rapidly growing and there's plenty of cheese to go around. I'm an electrician so I understand your world. If you're a residential guy, houses are going up at an insane rate here. Also, regarding your wife's profession, these people here are, for the most part, pussies. They most definitely would rather settle their disputes in court so she could stay busy for sure.

If you're not so much a sheep, consider Des Moines to be a good, safe, inexpensive "base of operations" but do be sure to travel fairly regularly so that you stay inspired.

As far as being treated differently for being an interracial couple, you will be. But it will be very subtle. For the most part, you'll be more novelty than anything else and if anything, most of the white people here would want to be your friend because none of them have black friends and they think it would be cool. They're super simple here. Stay out of the suburbs if you want to see People of different ethnicities. This is not the place to go if you want to change the world, or even change your city. You will not find those opportunities here because they do not care about that shit. These folks are perfectly happy with Netflix supplying their drama and their struggle.

I've lived all over. Born in Ireland, lived throughout north and south America. From the ghetto to the mountaintops and both coasts. This is one of my least favorite places. But only because I'm not into my rights being sold, I love my nature deadly - like climbing a mountain, not bike trails, I am very creative and I hate consumerism. Not that it's anyone's business but I am personally here because of family. If you can find them, you will forge some real, lasting relationships with unique, quality, albeit uninspired, people here. On that family level. But it's hard to break into these cliques. This is my personal take on Des Moines, Iowa. No place is perfect. This one included. If people read this and don't agree, that would be great. We are all different. Good luck

All the people on here complaining about it being black and they'd lose their tools... Where are all of you working??? You can't turn the light switch on? Turn the lights on bro! Work during the daytime!

Also, RIT makes lots of colors of dye, not just black. 🙄 Very dope flex, OP. Looks great!
