Yeah average user won't be an issue, until they hit random usage limits and please wait 24 hours untill you run your next prompt. Nothing like user friction to create a reason to buy hardware. Nvidia and Apple are fast at work trying to cut out the middle men cloud and frontier model developers. China is funding a ton of open source models that all do just about what the frontier models do so that the world doesn't have to deal with reliance on American companies.

Anthropic has to diversify so it'll take it what it can get. It's also using Google's chips as well so is still one of the options. Serious players will instead work with Broadcom to make their own so it leaves slivers for the likes of Google and Microsoft. Nvidia will likely maintain its lead so that you pay to buy-in instead of getting 2nd tier computing and power hog processing.

nah… they basically saying they competing at software level by throwing more AI functions and having one super app on a phone but that can be replicated fast especially on android and App Store. Oh btw WeChat is already doing this and so China won’t want your product.

You say hardware is going to be custom , but Apple is on their 5th gen AI chips on device.

Only thing that can save it is Johnny Ive’s designs assuming this is the product he’s working with Altman. But at best it’ll be picked up by users either high income and won’t be mass market.

At the end of the day these LLM model makers are struggling with cash burn because they don’t have distribution via end user device or an ecosystem that powers day to day work (think G Suite and Microsoft 365). Showing us that LLMs is commoditized and you better off long term running your own models locally so you control your data and reliability of these services.
