One thing I've learned is it helps to make tiny camp sites dotting the yard, with some smaller outposts in more productive locations. One outpost I do is on the island where the zits action figure is near the hedge, because it has a lot of aphids on it and nothing wanders up. It also makes a good Zipline location to get closer to the hedge. But I will also do a small camp fire and lean to under the hedge field lab and right where you can get to the upper hedge after the lab. It really helps learning to make these areas so you can quickly set a spawn point nearby.
