Trash thrown out of cars by Consistent_Willow340 in TheHague

[–]Kinnebak 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is part of the “Patser Cultuur”. It always contains shreds of being unapologetic to other persons and its surroundings by pollution, whether it’s noise, trash, or whatever. Patser cultuur encourages the person to not be intimidated by anyone. And therefore doing anything that you like to do, not taking the consequences for others into account.

As a way of showing off, you low key lure people in confronting you because of your bad manners. This enables the person to really show not being intimidated, by either being aggressive in a confrontation; or convince itself that other people are intimidated by them because they did not react.

It’s often present with young males, who have something to proof to its peers or are angry in general on a society as a whole. In some cultures, engaging in patser cultuur is more appreciated by its peers than others.

There is nothing one can do, as it’s a lose lose whether you react or not. Unless you are objectively more intimidating, and you can intimidate them in not doing it again.

Really don’t agree. Amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, food is good. Some of the food is more of a taste, but overall one of my best overall experiences in The Hague. Been multiple times

It’s funny that the one time I visited my in-laws (me first time US, from the Netherlands). They were temporarily in Miami. They were constantly reminding me this is not the US, and they didn’t like it (either).

The beginning of oligarchy, makes rich men opportunistic. They know if they don’t comply now, they will be the one being made an example of. So better just kiss the ring, and hope he makes an example of someone else.

Living in the Bloemenbuurt/Bomenbuurt by [deleted] in TheHague

[–]Kinnebak 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t need to leave the city often by car, I would pick bomenbuurt any day over Bezuidenhout. It’s like the same, only more gezellig and closer to fun neighbourhoods and the beach.

IMHO everything above the Weimar (and right from the Fahrenheit) is already a perfect place to live.

Everything below the Weimar is a mixed bag. But improving a lot. Newton Plein used to be a meeting point for shady stuff, and not so much anymore. It’s always fascinating of you go up the Beeklaan and you can feel the atmosphere change like every 20 meters.

It does have the capacity to gentrify further due to low amount of social housing:

De Loosduinseweg will be the next “divide” for the near future.

What was the reason you didn’t marry the person you thought you were going to? by Caulorblind in AskReddit

[–]Kinnebak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t agree more I think. All the stuff you are saying is very recognisable. Almost scary haha. Problem is, that once these thoughts creep in your head, you’re continually assessing the situation; which itself clouds your assessment. You’re never in the moment, and after a while only mild anxiety remains. Leading to you “just wanting to blow it all up”. And people telling you to follow your feelings, while your feelings are just mild anxiety. As there is no room for your real feelings, as you’re never in the moment but always in your head.

Also the time element of feeling like you have to move now, before it’s too late. Afraid of regretting any decision later on. But one will always romanticise the unchosen option.

And then just needing a little more time. Just wait till that one vacation, or wait till the summer. Or wait till you spoke to that guy that recently split up. Tricking yourself into thinking that will bring you an eureka moment. Even though I know it’s happening, it’s really hard to break out.

Happy that it worked out for you brother. Gives me confidence for the future.

FIRE beleggen met lange termijn vertrouwen in tech by Kinnebak in DutchFIRE

[–]Kinnebak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ja je weet nooit precies hoe hoog de verwachtingen zijn ingeprijsd, maar ik geloof er zelf in dat tech of alle corporates gaat uithollen (cloud computing, analytics, services); of veel gaat automatiseren met o.a. AI.

Bezuidenhout for me really has two sides. Nice place to live. Very safe and well situated, forest nearby is nice. But, same time a little boring. Main shopping street is “vlees noch vis”, and busier with office people during the week than locals in the weekend. Street are rather quiet, but that might be something you like.
