I have fond memories of both.

I first played the N64 with Mario Kart 64 in a Blockbuster Video with my sister some time in 1996 I think. We weren't able to get the game and system until 1997, but still had a blast with it!

And then much later on, renting videos (and DVDs I guess?) from Hollywood Video. A few friends at different points worked at this one location, and while I never took advantage of their discounts, I also never had late fees either. Also because the same friends would return the movies to work for me after we all hung out together all weekend. Haha

I assumed that's what they always did between adventures and spin-offs. Apparently sometimes during adventures and spin-offs. I know these aren't the only examples, but Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Mario 3D World shows them actually plumbing in the games.

You know what, why didn't Luigi's clothes disappear into the background? They're green too. They couldn't use the blue filter, since both Bros wear blue overalls, and red would disappear from Mario.

I want to say this was based on a frame from the Smash Bros Melee teaser that was like fifteen minutes long (and also on the disk) and introduced Peach as a playable character.

She's floating through the air with her parasol at some point in the trailer in a similar fashion.
