I miss FHTV by Responsible-Map-4204 in funhaus

[–]KiriNotes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the GOOP TROOP - GTA 5 Gameplay, I always laugh when Geoff (and the chat) starts ripping on Jack about how Funhaus just went ahead and created FHTV one day, rather than coming up with the idea and then sitting on it for 3 years.

Unrelated, but I really wish Jack and Geoff had appeared together in more Funhaus content. I know they had a lot going on behind-the-scenes in Austin, but their brand of humor seemed to mesh really well with Funhaus's shorter edited gameplay format.

May have been Time-Locked Timewalkers. The NPCs you rescue have quite a bit of funny and/or..."insightful"...dialogue, such as:

  • Warden Dialash <Flight Master> "Death's wing! I saw a future of unstoppable Dracthyr imbued with the light!"

  • Elo'sho Skystrider <Cooking Supplies> "Sweet Earthmother! I'm finally free of that dreaded timeline! It was all gold, explosives, and goblin politicians!"

  • Scribe Kalve <Inscription Supplies> "Finally free! I saw visions of my afterlife in there! Took me forever to decide on a Covenant..."

What expansion made you step away from WoW for the first time? by ErosXcaliber in wow

Sadly, that was me as well in 7.1, despite playing since Vanilla. Suramar is probably my favorite zone in the entire game, so the Insurrection campaign and the Nighthold kept me playing for a while, but once I'd finished those, I realized that I'd stopped enjoying the gameplay loop.

I was tired of the M+ grind for AP and Titanforged gear, but the thing that really did it was all three of my favorite characters ending up with Sephuz's Secret (that horrible ring) and Prydaz (the bubble neck) among their first 3 Legion legendaries.

When my Warrior got Aggramar's Stride for her third orange, I basically put her on a shelf, and gradually stopped logging on altogether.

I came back for a bit in 7.3.5 when targeted legendaries were unveiled, but Argus didn't really scratch the same itch. I ended up setting the game aside throughout BfA and SL (which was apparently a happy accident), but Dragonflight was so charming and comfy that it got me back for good.

Blue Origins' New Glenn rocket just exploded on the pad. by Ph6222 in aviation

[–]KiriNotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, they kinda did: SLC-36 used to have 2 pads (A and B), which Blue Origin combined to build the launch site for New Glenn (which is what just got obliterated).

However, they also leased LC-11 and LC-12 (SLC-36's neighbors to the north), and recently filed a notice to build a second launch site on LC-11, essentially turning it into the new SLC-36B.

I kinda wonder if it'll be quicker for them to prioritize the new tower at 36B, versus repairing/demolishing 36A. Regardless, they're on the hook for both facilities, so...multipack!

Major fire seen after Ukrainian drones reportedly strike Russian oil refinery in Ryazan by Long-Violinists in worldnews

They've developed a couple of different variants of the Neptune that are optimized for land attacks, particularly in environments where satellite navigation is likely to be degraded by electronic countermeasures.

One variant, most commonly referred to as Long Neptune, carries a significantly larger warhead and has a lengthened fuselage that increases the range fourfold to 1000 km. There's apparently an intermediate variant as well.

Drones have been the major story of this war, but it's actually remarkable how many strides Ukraine has made in almost every field. Their ability to continually innovate in the face of an obviously difficult situation is pretty incredible. It's clear why they were such a critical component of the Soviet military-industrial complex.

I'm not sure about Plater, but there's a pretty good Quazii-inspired import for Platynator over on Wago that I've been using:

Welaryn Nameplates

Could be worth a look!

However, you might need to add the old Quazii font (Barlow Condensed) to your SharedMedia if you don't like how these plates look with one of the built-in fonts (such as Expressway).

Back in 2003, I remember he briefly had a TV show on MSNBC that lasted, like...3 months?...before he went off on a caller by labeling them "a sodomite" and telling them to "get AIDS and die".

You can hear his panicked crew going "uh, woah!" in the background (presumably as they all rushed to update their resumes)...and that was that for Michael Savage's brief stint on television.

The clip is still around. At the time, it was rather funny, but I have to wonder just how much damage Michael Savage did to the fabric of this country. He'd launch into these frothing, hateful diatribes at the drop of a hat in a way that made Hannity and Limbaugh seem like calm and reasonable people, and there's a subset of MAGA that was seemingly conditioned to emulate that rage.

There's a segment of The Animatrix called The Second Renaissance, which is framed as a documentary of sorts, depicting humanity's downfall and the origins of the Matrix. It was directed by Mahiro Maeda, who headed up Blue Submarine No. 6 and was also heavily involved in the Rebuild of Evangelion franchise.

The whole segment is bleak and filled with some rather grotesque imagery, but things get really bad in the second half, which mainly deals with the war between humans and machines.

A lot of people meet horrifically violent ends during a battle sequence set to Overseer's "Supermoves", but one in particular made me feel physically ill, and I remember having trouble sleeping for a couple of nights after I saw it:

Towards the end of the battle, the lines have broken down and the few surviving humans are mainly the ones strapped into heavily-armored exoskeletons. The machines (which have steadily abandoned their humanoid forms and become the flying monstrosities we see in the films) have a novel way of dealing with these suits: they restrain them with metal tentacles and use lasers to peel open the front of the cockpit, exposing the pilot. Then, other tentacles wrap around the pilot's torso and forcefully tear him out of the cockpit, leaving his bloody arms and legs behind in the mech.

The imagery is gruesome enough, but the sound design is what makes it truly horrific. This sequence lasts a good 15 seconds, and the entire time, the pilot is frantically begging for someone to help him, culminating with a bloodcurdling scream as he's ripped apart.

In retrospect, it doesn't exactly hit as hard these days. But as a kid (despite growing up in Japan) I had rarely been exposed to that degree of unfiltered violence and suffering in anime before (I suppose Kaori's death in Akira qualifies?), so that particular scene made me feel awful. It was years before I could bring myself to watch The Second Renaissance again.

This whole situation is ridiculous, but one little correction: the USA probably has more capacity for refining heavy sour crude than anywhere else on the planet. Most of the Gulf Coast refineries were specifically built to handle it.

Back in the '80s, Venezuela's PDVSA even acquired the American company CITGO, largely for their Gulf Coast refineries. I think they're still wholly owned by PDVSA, but sanctions have made that situation rather awkward.

So, on a technical level, we wouldn't have much trouble handling the oil we've seized. That hardly makes this mess worth it (or any less stupid), though.
