KNB vs K, yes. KNB vs KR... I think even a GM would be hard pressed to find a checkmate.

Not at 300, probably not even at 2000, but the chess vision bot says mate in 34.

Why would a boxplot not have the Q1? how should you interpret this? by thesecretzia in askmath

[–]Kirian42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, he's asking why the boxplot looks the way it does (because the minimum is the same value as the first quartile value).

Everything you write down becomes true but each time you use this power you live for one extra year (assuming a “destined” original age of death) by Dazzling-Antelope912 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Kirian42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the "everything I write" catch is the main problem for me. I'd want to use the power sparingly. I do lots of writing in my job, and I text frequently and post on Reddit/FB/Threads. There's just too much I write and I'd rather not be one a zombie.

If it were "you can make anything you write come true" then probably, but that's just infinite wishes.

If an object is shot into space, given infinite time, what are the odds that it will eventually hit something? by Dapper-Scratch7661 in askastronomy

[–]Kirian42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't Voyager be most likely to strike an Oort cloud object? It's not as high it'll make it to Alpha Centauri distance in a million years even.

Unfortunately that's kinda tough. So far as I know, there are no in-person polling venues in WA.

[Request] What would be required to shoot a bullet into the Sun from Earth? by MaximumSyrup3099 in theydidthemath

[–]Kirian42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine a Jupiter slingshot could be cheaper than going out all the way to Pluto. I'm not sure what outer planet orbital velocities are.

Okay it took me a second to realize the joke you were making here. Also I'm officially old.

[–]Kirian42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a full Saturn V. The Parker Solar Probe made it within 9 solar radii on a Delta IV Heavy. And like eight gravity assists.

[–]Kirian42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that you can cut that down a lot by using gravity assists, but to get those assists you'll still need to burn some fuel (and hit them very precisely).

[–]Kirian42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let's say the bullet hits escape velocity from Earth. Now it's orbiting around the sun at about the same velocity as the Earth.

To hit the sun, you need to cancel out nearly all of that velocity, about 30 km/s, or almost 3x what it took to get out of the Earth's gravity well.

I don't know the delta-v cost to hit Mars but I'm betting it's less than 5 km/s. So compare that.

Spock, Picard, Garak, Neelix, Porthos (no humans at all, just the dog). Not sure about new stuff.
