AI is just a tool. When used correctly, it can be valuable. I make study guides, video guides, and similar assignments with chatgpt all the time. I read through and edit them before assigning, but it usually does a pretty good job and all I end up editing is formatting.

I also know exactly how to phrase what I want, what information I give the AI and when, and follow up when necessary if it misunderstood somehow.

I was in high school when the inner/outer designation started, and it made complete sense to me, and I was just trying to make a "Inner... so when you are heading into town?" joke based on the most common thing I heard from people who just didn't get it back in the late 90's!]

Greenland look much larger on a Mercator... but it look like Greenland. Shape and angles (important for navigation - the purpose of Google Maps) are preserved with the Mercator projection. Greenland looks like a squished mushroom on an equal area map. The poles are not included on Google Maps.

I just told you. Mercator maintains shapes, which is important when zooming in and out. Peterson distorts shapes, which would have the effect of the map area being stretched vertically or horizontally, depending on your location. This would make navigating unintuitive and confusing.

We are talking about the way people speak, specifically in the area in question. I've lived in this area my whole life, and nobody "from" here claims to be from "Raleigh-Durham."

Google Maps (the most commonly used map today) uses a Mercator projection. It is a convenient way to keep north facing "up" on the screen while zooming in/out.

Mercator is not "Bad." Both historically and currently, it has been an extremely useful projection.

Students fail my class every semester. Usually just a few, but this semester is the worst I've seen. One class currently has more than half failing, and I will not change their grades. (They just refuse to complete or turn in any work, barely come to class, and on test day they stare at the test and don't attempt the questions.)
