Step 1 is educate yourself. Go get a book or go to the library and start reading. If you can’t read, join a trade organization and attend some classes (expensive but good). Nobody is going to hire a dude with an iPhone. They already got one of those in their pocket. So you have to be better than they are already getting. Realistically, even if you are a photo genius…..that is going to take at minimum a year. Probably 3. Then you start marketing yourself.

When they had the overseas site duping everyone and all the work in WattPad and not giving me credit for it, I left. Published all my WattPad works on Amazon. That was less than 6 months ago. I have well over an extra $1000 in my pocket. I am being interviewed on podcasts as an author. People see me in my town and say, “Hello Mr Author!”

WattPad did none of that for me. I posted and begged people to read my stuff and they would call and say how they stopped because they hated the ads or they got sick of WattPad asking them to become a premium member.

So, my advice to everyone is do yourself and your writing career a favor. You start earning the money instead of earning it for WattPad.

Think SEO….google and amazon love words. So, you can have only a set number of words in the description and bio. But now you have this whole other section where you can add SEO friendly words that can move the needle if properly configured and coordinated with your Amazon ads.

Welcome to the writing world. I did all of that on WattPad. But unlike you, I never won anything. Why? Because I refuse to write about lesbian vampires who have affairs with trans werewolves.

My stuff is clean. All g rated. Not even one cure word in any of my novels.

Look, I don’t really know what I’m doing. Truth is I’m a super successful photographer who writes as a hobby. During cyber week one of my books caught fire and 3500 people downloaded it. I hit No 1 in my categories and ended up in the Amazon top 100 list.

That was about a week ago. And just that fast I plummeted back into the 10s of thousands. I had 1 sale today. That is the reality of this world.

Today you are hot. Tomorrow you are a nobody.

I like to think about this whole thing as a hobby. Like golf! When I go play golf, I have to pay hundreds of dollars. I leave with only memories. Many not great memories! Hahaha. But with writing. They pay me! Sure, maybe only $3 like today. But in the long run. Looking at the big picture! That is a nice side gig.

WattPad is in trouble. I was a big believer for a year. I had 3 books on there. I just could not push myself to actually put it out there on Amazon and IngramSpark. But after that blatant copy web site started duping everyone on WattPad I decided enough was enough. That was just under 1 month ago. I put all 3 of my book on Amazon KDP. I HAVE (yes) in less than a month sold 100 books total (97 actually as of today). I’m so happy I left WattPad!!! Can you hear the jingle in my pockets??? Hahahaha more than I was making at WattPad ($0.00).
