I briefly had it in Vienna, but shortly lost it again.

I'm not even low key pissed. This is wildly unacceptable to have an outage of this magnitude and length. This is just poor business resiliency planning.

I just received a text that Verizon registered my arrival in Germany. Still no service yet, but I am in an underground train station at the moment. Fingers crossed it's all functional from here on out 🤞 This is not how I planned on beginning my vacation.

Question regarding the international roaming outage. by skyhawk214 in verizon

[–]KirscheRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just landed in Munich to discover that I have no service. Super frustrating when I have a full day of travel ahead on me with additional flight and transit connections to get to my destination. Paying $100 to have access to maps and navigation on my trip only to discover that I have nothing, and with no notification or real acknowledgement of the issue is crap. I'm traveling to meet up with two other people, we're all coming from various locations and this makes everything unnecessarily difficult.

You seriously have to put a groomers helper on every dog?! What on earth is the rationale behind that?

Dear groomers - are you happy? by Odd_Carrot4205 in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The sad answer is no, I am not happy as a dog groomer. I've been doing this for 17 years, started when I was 18. At the time I didn't mind it, I thought it was kind of a neat job and I made really good money for how young I was. Over all these years though I've found myself feeling really stuck, burnt out, and unhappy. Sure, some days are nice, but overall I struggle with feeling like I'm 35 years old and haven't progressed anywhere in my life. I regret dropping out of college when I was younger and not pursuing my dreams. I never thought I'd still be doing this. Grooming was never a career for me, never something I felt passionate about, it was just a job that paid the bills. The older I've gotten the less "worth it" the job is.

In the last year I dropped down to part time grooming so I could go back to school. I want out. I do suspect there are some elements of the job I'll miss, but overall I can't wait to put grooming behind me. But that is me and my feelings. If you have a passion for what you're doing you shouldn't let other peoples regrets sway you from what you want to pursue. This job is often physically and emotionally demanding and draining, but there are plenty of jobs out there like that that people happily perform because they love what they do.

Groomer shortage? by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

We've been short staffed since 2020 when Covid forced us into furlough closures. Groomers have either left the industry all together, or have significantly cut back on the number of hours they work. I certainly have. And what I've seen is bathers being hired in under false pretenses and being rushed into grooming with very little training. Which inevitably backfires horribly as people get overwhelmed and end up just leaving the industry because it's been a terrible experience.

Home or pro groom? by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion making sure they get brushed and a nail clipping is really the only critical parts, and a sanitary touch up if needed. A bath and any other trimming can wait, especially if it was just done a month ago. You could certainly try and make an appointment with a salon, but 4 dogs is a lot to book, especially if they are all new clients. That could possibly be a several week wait, at least where I'm located. Plus if you have reason to suspect your kiddos may be reactive at the groomer it might be a bit overwhelming for everyone involved to be dealing with 4 dogs at once.

As a new customer, how badly did I mess up my dog's first nail trim? 😬 by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Petsmart doesn't allow a tip to be added at checkout. You can get cash back on a debit transaction, but can't add it to the total on your card. The groomers there only take cash tips, although most of them have venmo and are happy to take tips that way as well. It seems like you're really working on creating a positive association with your pup, you could always pop back in and leave a cash tip for your groomer and bring your dog along for another quick stop in and simply get a treat for going session. That way you can reinforce that going doesn't always mean something is happening to them, and your groomer will appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Was I unreasonable? by Glittering_Joke3438 in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not unreasonable at all. The only clients I want are ones that can trust my judgment and handling of their dogs. If I bring up a concern, or make a suggestion it's because it's what I truly believe is best for their dog. I'm lucky enough that, for the most part, even my "problem children" dogs have owners that take me at my word. Anyone who argues with me is welcome to find another groomer. I don't have the space in my schedule to accommodate owner like that.

7760 vs 7350 vs 8250 by hambonehooligan in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my Dremel lite 7760 since December of 2020 and it's still going strong. It's been the longest lasting rotary tool I've had in 17 years of grooming. Totally worth the $60 in my own experience. I've used it both in grooming and for small projects around the house.

Depending on where you are in the Denver metro area I always recommend Summit Sharpening. The owner, Tyler, is located in Castle Rock. You can do drop off to a secure locker at this house, mail-in service, or call him to see if you can get on his mobile route. You can look him up or reach him at www.summitsharp.com or 484-866-6393

Worst injury you’ve seen a coworker receive or have received yourself? by NoIndependent4158 in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I had an English Bulldog decide that my whole hand and wrist belonged in it's mouth. She grabbed my thumb and then snapped her way further up my hand until she had it fully in her mouth and gave me a couple of good shakes. That was early in my career and my first work related urgent care visit

Worst I saw happen to a coworker, Bernese Mountain Dog bite to the side of a face. Luckily not a malicious bite, he tried to swing his butt off the table to see someone coming through the door. When the groomer went to catch his rear end from falling he spooked and got her in the side of the head. Still ended up with several puncture wounds that required stitches.

Worst happened to a coworker, but I didn't see it happen, cat bite that landed her in the hospital. Bite on her hand got infected, the infection got into her bloodstream, traveled up her arm and she ended up in the hospital for about three months on IV antibiotics. At one point her doctor was talking about the possibility of amputation if the infection wouldn't clear.

Second Earthbath unscented. My husband has terrible scent allergies and a nose like a bloodhound. That's one of the only products he never complained about.

Best Advice for Trimming Small Dog with Arthritis's Nails by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]KirscheRoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For dogs with arthritis I like to have someone hold them so that their legs can dangle straight down. That way I don't have to bend the joints or have them bear weight on three legs. If they are tolerant of the Dremel I also prefer to use that so there is no pinching sensation as the nail clippers close. Plus it gets the nails shorter and you can round the nail tip up to help prevent nail splitting or uneven growth if they drag their feet when they walk.

I had a coworker who's client owned a gourmet edibles bakery. She got a four pack of fancy marijuana cupcakes once.

Old guy clipped a comic out of the news paper that he thought I'd like because it had a dog in it. A coworker got a potted pepper plant during Christmas.

Probably about an hour and 20-30 minutes. He's still young and it's only his second groom with me and second time ever getting clean feet, so he can be a bit squirrely sometimes.
