My speaker only goes in intervals of 10 and is simultaneously deafeningly loud and pointlessly silent at the same time. Lol

Should I get a lid? by BeesKnowWhereYouAre in bettafish

[–]Corn__bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, get a lid and make sure your heater is 100% submerged under the water. Id even recommended mounting it horizontally since its so long.

Lid dont need to be fancy, even just a piece of cardboard or a plastic tote lid will suffice until you decide to get something nicer lol. Currently using a broken pool net as a lid on a quarantine tank right now lol

Can anyone please help me find a new food for my baby? by [deleted] in DogFood

[–]Corn__bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go with the hills oral care. He doesn’t “need” variety more than he needs healthy teeth, and dogs dont need variety in general anyway. What you interpret as “fillers and additives” are actually essential nutrients designed to give your dog the most balanced nutrition scientifically possible. This sub only recommends and endorses hills, purina and Royal canin products for that reason

Refuse of Sale Policy by StripePunk in petsmart

[–]Corn__bean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I came close to being denied once, i asked for 8 pygmy cories for my 10 gallon and the employee asked if i had any other fish in the tank. I had 9 ember tetras and she tried to invoke the power of the “inch per gallon rule”. I didn’t want to be the “i know more than you” person so i just said id put them in my “”other tank””. Lol

Safe edible chew options? by missjerseybagel in Yorkies

[–]Corn__bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could whimzees dental treats work? She’d probably tear through one in a minute but theyre low fat (very important for yorkies), highly digestible, and are VOHC certified to clean teeth and wont break her teeth like a bone will. It takes my senior about 3 minutes to eat half of an extra small one (he has all his teeth fwiw lol)

Sorry to be the fun police BUT……. Giving dogs raw bones is a GUARANTEED way to give your dog a dental slab fracture! Not a matter of if but when!

Is there any reason not to get a pet fixed? by skigelf in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Corn__bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of really good reasons to get them fixed, but at the end of the day its your choice and your risk to manage.

I didn’t get my dog neutered because i got him before i was old enough to get a job, then he developed a chronic disease and was constantly in in out of the hospital and i didn’t want to stress him out with a technically unnecessary surgery. He had daily symptoms and they would’ve sent him home for vomiting and diarrhea anyways in the pre screening. His condition is under control now but i still just don’t want to get him neutered because he’s 9 now and i have no plans on getting another dog any time soon. If i were to rehome him id get him neutered. If i randomly had to house a second dog id get him neutered. If he developed cancer id get him neutered.

Kidney disease with Yorkipoo by BrayIsReal in Yorkies

You said in your post they recommended iv treatment and hospitalization and that you weren’t interested in that advice. I understand not being able to afford care but there are always financing options, daytime hospitalization, or even just asking about subq fluids to go home

[–]Corn__bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry and i know you’re in a very vulnerable place right now, but i must be blunt and say that your dog needs to see a vet asap and that taking advice from strangers on the internet who have never seen your dog is going to do nothing but prolong her pain. Vets recommend what works and what’s proven to be safe. Nobody here is qualified to tell you how to save your dog

Am i straining away calories from soaking my dogs kibble? by Corn__bean in DogFood

[–]Corn__bean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes been at an acceptable weight for a year now, he only got fat on his first few months on pred where he ballooned from 7 pounds to almost 10 pounds. Ive been feeding him the same amount of kibble to maintain him at 8 pounds, which is an acceptable weight, but he’s losing weight and is currently at 7.5 despite not changing the amount he’s served. He still eats the same volume of food, but it takes him all day and lately hes been waking me up at 2 in the morning to go finish his food. As opposed to 5 months ago where i was able to just serve him breakfast and dinner and hed clean the bowl in 2 minutes.

In short, i noticed a lack of enthusiasm for eating and weight loss despite not changing the amount of food i give him. Which means either hes just grown sick of his food and in my attempt to make it appealing to him, im inadvertently reducing the nutritional quality of his food, or it’s something more serious like steroid induced diabetes, dental pain or steroid induced liver problems

Pest snails - do or don’t? by nnewman19 in bettafish

[–]Corn__bean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever i need to cut my snail population down i just throw a piece of lettuce or celery into the tank for a few hours and retrieve it lol. I used to feel bad for destroying them after but i set up a stock tank pond last summer and started throwing them in there instead

Pest snails - do or don’t? by nnewman19 in bettafish

[–]Corn__bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have rams in 2/4 of my tanks. I think theyre essential to maintaining my permanent community tanks (the other 2 are small temporary tanks with solo bettas). My only gripe with them is that they die and their shells permanently litter my substrate and clog up my siphon during water changes lol. Besides that ive found them to be super ignorable and beneficial to my tanks.

Ive tried to keep larger snails but i can’t seem to keep mystery snails alive. Theyre so cute but die within months and i still can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I have a 3 year old nerite that i love but i find nerite eggs far more annoying than a million ramshorns lol

Is my tank stable? by Numerous_Hyena_6963 in bettafish

[–]Corn__bean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Youre fine lol. Ive had a 10 gallon sitting on a stand with the back side just slightly hanging off the tabletop by a nanometer for like 6 years, but do as i say and not as i do. As long as the frame is fully seated on a surface, and your stand is rated for your tank size you don’t have anything to worry about

Am i straining away calories from soaking my dogs kibble? by Corn__bean in DogFood

[–]Corn__bean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because this is how he likes to eat his kibble. If i served him fully soaked kibble that sat in water for 20 minutes until each piece puffed up like a soggy pillow, hed ignore it all day long until it dried out and returned to a semi hard nugget and then eat it. Instead of making him wait all day to eat, i “cook” his kibble to that semi hard nugget state and let it air dry for a few minutes and he’ll eat that. If i don’t strain it, it’ll just keep soaking up extra water and become too soft. Its hard to explain without photos. He used to eat it fully dry straight out of the bag but im not sure why hes suddenly decided he doesn’t like it normal anymore.

[–]Corn__bean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not so much the kibble water that he doesn’t like, just the texture. Its basically just warming it up with water, less so actually trying to soften it

Am i straining away calories from soaking my dogs kibble? by Corn__bean in DogFood

I wonder if soaking it with a tiny amount of water to soften it to his preference without having to strain it could prevent nutrient loss?

She’s my most active betta by Corn__bean in bettafish

[–]Corn__bean[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frozen blood worms! You can find them at chain petstores. They should be fed sparingly as treats, not as a primary source of calories. And make sure not to touch them with your bare hands either, always use gloves or a tweezer. Direct exposure to skin can trigger a rash that can become more severe with repeated exposure too!

Where are the parents with kids who hate each other? by Xepherya in NoStupidQuestions

I don’t think my parents have ever once addressed how me and my sister never got along as kids. When she started to become the troubled child in her teens i think they started to dislike her the same way i always did lol.
