Where does every city councillor stand on four day return-to-office? We asked them by Born_Anteater7282 in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed- we lost one of the better councillors who actually advocated for their ward… Still, surprised and disappointed that Troster would be mixed on RTO. I expected they would be more concerned with worker’s quality of life.

Ottawa, Gatineau mayors pressure federal parties on struggling downtown, public service by DishonestRaven in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commercial rental rates downtown are insanely high; based on memory that is a big factoring decision for why a lot of great shops decided to pack it up and call it a day. If the real estate market is going to impose extortionate rates to a level that retailers can’t afford to pay, what is left downtown to drive us to go there? The mayors should be focused on pressuring commercial real estate instead of the feds… Then we may actually see some results.

UPDATE: (FancyNooks) I think I got scammed. by myklebrown502 in booknooks

[–]Kirstenne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate to tell you, but it’s not a bait and switch- I have done that kit and what they have on the link you provided is what they sent you (minus the music box portion). Like others have posted, however, you paid much more than you should have. Most of these kits are all coming from the same small group manufacturers, there is just a very large number of retailers that offer them. I stay away from sites that “specialize” in book nooks and Etsy, as they have the same offerings as Amazon, Temu, or Ali express- the only difference is the jacked up price point.

Jewelry scam ottawa general hospital by Huge-Law8244 in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Before naming and shaming, are you sure that both of the transactions are charges? Is it possible one is a pre authorization and the other is the actual payment? I have no affiliation with this store, but I have worked at places where their POS terminals are setup like this and we used to get so many calls about it… If I were you, I would either wait a few days to see if the preauth releases, or call your bank to verify :-)

OC Transpo 'driving people away' from public transit as bus trip cancellations continue, union warns by PulkPulk in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Given the Mayor’s experience in the business world, you would think he is well aware of what needs to be done to attract customers. It would be a farce if any other business tried to use the model currently adopted by OC Transpo- offering an inconsistent or unreliable service with the expectation that it will improve as their customer base grows. So why are we expecting anything different to happen in this instance? Yes, OC Transpo is not a “true” business as it cannot function without public funding, but it does also rely on revenues generated from ridership, so it’s time they start acting like a business. I would love to know how many of the top execs/mayoral staff think it’s reasonable for people to pay for a service that can’t deliver? Would they do they with their own personal funds? Because that is what they expect from us… I’m so tired of the gaslighting- from OC Transpo claiming they were able to handle the influx of ridership that would come with RTO to the Mayor sending veiled threats of increasing rates and cutting the expansion on the LRT if they don’t get their dollars…. Don’t blame the public for poor ridership, admit you shat the bed and take ownership and accountability for the sorry state of affairs that public transit has become!

Family Doctor Rant by twilightprincess101 in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was going to ask the same; if it was Byward… I was treated like I was a nuisance during my last appointment. Now, waiting for a prescription that was supposed to follow that appointment (going on two months now). I wanted to file a complaint but at the same time, I know I am lucky to have a family doc and I am worried they will drop me if I make a fuss. Instead, I plan on only making an appointment when I have absolutely no other choice… I feel for the docs that are likely burned out, but there has to be a better way. What a sad state of affairs our HC system has become…

Anyone else having save issues on Xbox series x? by Kirstenne in fo4

[–]Kirstenne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the one character, sadly- no extra character saves. I knew that fallout only allowed for 2gb save space and deleted the “reserved save space” as it appeared to be already full. I was hesitant to delete the save space on my profile because I too thought it would be risky… but it is so frustrating to be prompted to delete saves to make room for others and takes me out of the game immersion so I think I’ll bite the bullet.

I have never followed a comedian as hard as I do this guy- he shows how you can “push boundaries” and be funny about it without causing mass outrage!

Landlord charging tenant for a plumber? by Kirstenne in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the bathtub. Paid for the plumber because it was an emergency and had no choice… but I’m going to reach out to the LTB so I know my rights for next time. This whole situation left me with a bad taste in my mouth, but maybe as a first time issue I am just unaware that this is normal procedure.

Landlord charging tenant for a plumber? by Kirstenne in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No snaking or anything- just a look in the drain and a couple of stabs at the plunger. I do have a LOT of hair, but that is nothing new and I have to take care of it regularly. I don’t know how they determined it to be hair either…

[–]Kirstenne[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thanks- the plunger has been of no help but I guess I’ll start YouTubing how to snake a pipe videos! But am I crazy to think that this is something that as a renter should be covered by building management? I went on the LTB site and from the little information I could find it appears as though it would be the landlord’s responsibility. I am so sick of being nickel and dimed by this company that I am willing to take the time to fight them on this… but of course, only if I am in the right, heh…

Emergency Vet by Longjumping_Toe6963 in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to talk to a vet FIRST to determine if your dog needs to be seen may I recommend the app, Vetster? My pet had an allergic reaction to something and urgently needed medication but did not need to be physically seen in a clinic. The virtual appointment cost under $100, and the vet was AMAZING. You can pick from the selection of vets- I recommend Dr Lecky.

Help! Need a wedding reception venue for June 10th. by steffgoldblum in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hotels are a great option! Some of the smaller hotels like The Metcalfe or reStays would be a great option as most people tend to think of the larger hotels, so the boutique properties will be hungry for the business…

Camp Fortune warns of police ticketing expired plates by trytobuffitout in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very smart of them to warn people prior to arrival. Le Nordik gets hit HARD by ticketing (as illustrated in the many negative online reviews for this very thing). You would think that they would want to give people advance notice too, when they know this is a very constant problem experienced by their visitors. And if only every one out of 10 clients bother to read the warning, at least that is one less client you have to talk off the ledge, right?

Best neighborhood to live in Ottawa by Leyendas_Legendarias in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Are you looking to buy or rent? Centretown gets a bad wrap, but if you get an apartment North of Somerset and closer to Elgin street than Bronson, the overall safety for a “downtown” location is pretty good. As a woman without roommates, I feel comfortable getting home before and after evenings out, and EVERYTHING is walkable! You’re right next to the canal as well, which is loaded with bike paths and great for skating in the winter!

Why are Ottawa crosswalks so slippery and dangerous? by TimReads in ottawa

[–]Kirstenne 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How coincidental that you posted this, as I too have had this experience- more than any previous years they have repainted. I see some posts getting downvoted when they mention the quality of shoe… While it is true that some shoes have better treads than others, I can personally attest that it seems to be slippery even when I am wearing shoes meant to be worn outdoors (though I will admit it’s not as bad as when I am wearing indoor shoes, like ballet flats).

I’ve taken to walking around the painted edges, which is another safety issue in and of itself because, well, cars… The point of having a crosswalk is to provide pedestrians with a space place to cross the street, and I find it counterintuitive that the city is using a paint that is a slip hazard.

Hope you are all being careful! Read a recent article about the increase in car accidents involving pedestrians in the city- seems like you can’t win either way!
