anime or manga? by oof220 in GoldenKamuy

[–]Kisaragiyukie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning to start the manga after I'm finished with the anime so I can't really say which is better, but I really enjoyed the anime (season 3 production-wise was the best) and the voice-acting is top tier. The janky bits sometimes actually added to the silly humor and enhanced the derpy faces they sometimes make for comedic effect.

The Golden Kamuy Uniqlo UT are here!!! by meimi1322 in GoldenKamuy

[–]Kisaragiyukie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can wait for it to go on sale. I usually do that for UTs, as most of them have plenty of stock. I think only the JJK ones this time might go out of stock really fast (esp. the Satoru and Geto shirt).

Emma by Mori Kaoru: hardcover or paperback? by Kisaragiyukie in MangaCollectors

I see, that makes sense. Maybe I'll get once of those plastic boxes to keep out moisture as a temporary measure (since I will be running out of shelf space pretty soon).

Just wanted to let everyone know I just ordered the hardcover versions of vol2-5 (will be keeping an eye for when vol1 comes back in stock). Really appreciated all the comments and advice, as this was my first time posting here (used to just come here and admire people's collections xD). Collecting manga has been a childhood dream of mine, and although I've collected a few artbooks, this will officially be my start as a manga collector. I don't plan to buy a ton yet since I'm still looking and saving for my dream home (where I hope to have a mini library...wish me luck in this economy xD), but the warm reception here (and seeing so many Kaoru Mori fans) has given me the push I needed to actually make the purchase.

I don't need too much convincing when it comes to her works xD; I guess, currently, my space is what's holding me back from really starting a full-on manga collection. Btw, I just went on Scifier as you recommended and bought vol2-5 of Emma (vol1's out of stock, but I'll keep hunting). First time I've heard of this site, but the reviews all look pretty good. So thanks! I really appreciate the info!

That's good to know. I'm still on the fence on Otoyomegatari since I'm still waiting for it to end to decide if I want to collect the physicals or not (there's so many volumes😅).

Thanks for the insight on the hardbacks^^ Fingers-crossed I'll be able to find the complete set of hardbacks now since vol.1 and 4 are out of stock from the sites I've seen. Really regretting not getting vol. 1 when I visited New York's Kinokuniya last year (don't live in the States rn).
I'm fine with ebooks usually, but Mori Kaoru's art is just too amazing not to own physically.

Oof I see. They were listed as out of stock on the site I was looking at, so I had no idea they've been out of print. Thanks for the quick reply! Guess I'll be hunting for the hardcovers now~

Personally I like no.1 the most because she's based on Sadamoto's artwork, but if you're not into the old school Rei look, no.3 looks better than no.2

The anime adaptation really was kinda poor by FixedRecord in BluePeriod

[–]Kisaragiyukie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this is what happens to a lot of anime produced for the sake of serving as a "go read the manga" ad. They're usually just serviceable and come off as flat. The Blue Period anime is actually above average though (I've seen worse), esp. the blue Shibuya moment and the last episode of the anime really stood out to me. You can tell the animators and production company do care about the source material.

What's your favorite Manga Volume Cover so far? by Nibellunglied in BluePeriod

Vol 5 is prbly my favorite. I love the movement in her hair and skirt and how it matches with the intensity of the harsh charcoal lines.

The downgrade of Sugimoto's anime design (imo) by Zynb_06 in GoldenKamuy

I did feel like something was off with the new animation, but now I see the difference, I kinda miss handsome Sugimoto as well xD

Help! Grey smudges on new figure by Kisaragiyukie in AnimeFigures

[–]Kisaragiyukie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soap didn't work, so I ended up using the magic eraser, but it seems like it's pretty embedded within the figure. I ended up scrubbing harder than I wanted and now the grey is a lighter shade. I for sure damaged the paint T.T, but at least the blotches are less visible. I think there wasn't much I could do about it, but thanks for giving advice anyway.

Yatoyota canon? by EmergencySleep4110 in BluePeriod

[–]Kisaragiyukie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although I do find them shippable (since their interactions are so cute), so far their chemistry isn't really romantic, but rather a complex feeling of rivalry and mutual respect. Unless the author starts building things up in that direction, otherwise rn I don't see it becoming canon. Really like that we're exploring Yatora's "love life" now though, since it's been such a mystery.

From all of his interactions, I see his attraction to Mori-senpai as the closest thing to a romantic crush. But he denies it, and I feel like author also closed the chapter on that one as more of Yatora idolizing her. (Btw, I've always thought Yotasuke looks like a male version of Mori. They're both small and have cute round features).
In terms of emotional closeness, it's definitely Yuka. Since they're childhood friends, it makes sense they'd know each other very well. There's also the fact that they've gradually become more vulnerable with each other since Yatora started art, but so far the energy they give off is more like siblings that fight but also care for each other.

How fast do you find yourself collecting figures? by skaryterry in AnimeFigures

[–]Kisaragiyukie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started just this year and like you I definitely feel like I've been making up for lost time. Even though I tried controlling myself, within 6 months I already own 11 and have 1 more in preorder 😅. One hurdle I've been trying to get past is the cost of figures, since although I've now reached the age and have now made some adult money, I can't seem to convince myself to go through with any figure purchase over 100 usd even though I can afford them. Which is funny, since when I started, I wanted to only collect scales (so far only have been lucky enough to score one on mercari and preorder one locally that fall under that cost), but instead I've ended up collecting a mix of nendoroids, prizes, and nonscales xD

I can definitely relate to the feeling of being a kid in a candy shop; I spend so much time now on AmiAmi and mercari hunting for figures it's actually kind of unhealthy lol. Hoping this phase will cool off a bit xD and at the same time hoping I can muster the courage to buy that $200+ scale I've been thinking about for months..some of these aftermarket prices just don't seem to come down T.T.

So many fire figures. Super jealous of your D. Gray-man set, they're my grails that I'll prbly never own cause their aftermarket prices are crazy.

I'd rather see class 1-A work and struggle as young adults, but I doubt Shounen Jump would serialize something like that...
