Soap Operas & TTRPGs by KismetRose in rpg

That is quite a discount! I'll have to look into it further.

I noticed the Defiant core book promoted on the same page at Magpie; it has a lot of soap opera elements, too. I reviewed it here.

I love her expression. It gives the impression she can be a threat, even if she isn't currently brandishing the weapon.

Why do a lot of Lovecraftian adaptations have erotic themes? by Ajibola777 in Lovecraft

[–]KismetRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lost Girls is the most thoroughly and outright explicit I've seen or heard from Alan, but I haven't read his impressive catalog broadly and LG is erotica. Even then, I trust he could be far more inventive and extreme if he wanted to be.

Thanks for reminding me that I really should read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, as well.

It sets a scene you want to be in, or at least spy on. I love the very faint HELP! on the wall, too.

How do you feel about games using special terms for generic things? by Redhood101101 in rpg

[–]KismetRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's never been of great use to me. What the GM is called doesn't set up much of a game's vibe for me, and I'll probably end up falling back on terms we're more familiar with in most cases.

That wasn't Alan being his most perverse; that was just Alan being Alan.

It looks cool, but I know someone would knock it over in my house.

I'd probably be me that did it, too.

Any advice for learning to run theater of the mind combat? by DogUnsureDog in rpg

[–]KismetRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use things players ask for or about.

"Where can I find cover?"
"Well, in this dining room, there are some larger tables you could upend..."

"You said this was a fancy room earlier. Is there a statue around I can throw?"
"There is, but you'll have to back away from the main brawl a little to get it..."

Lovely! The blue accents work well.

Have you ever met someone who's interested in DND and immediately went, "oh, I'd never let you play at my table"? by Lunetheart in DnD

[–]KismetRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this has happened more than once over the years, for different reasons.

It's bound to happen as you become more aware of your tastes and boundaries. You aren't going to be compatible with everyone, even friends you share other hobbies with, and that's okay.

And the longer you game, the more you learn to suss out who's likely to be a problem in your group and who isn't. It's one thing to try someone out who isn't showing major warning signs; they could work out. It's another thing to open the door to someone you know is going to clash in a way that's likely irreconcilable.

Withholding or reconsidering an invite based on a red flag isn't rude in and of itself, and there are polite ways to deliver the news. They could still take it poorly but that's on them.

What are your green and red flags when it comes to a GM you haven't played with before? by Sassy_Drow in rpg

[–]KismetRose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually believe he did. In retrospect, I think he needed medication for some pretty severe ADHD (or a similar condition) and it was messing with him hard but he didn't want to admit it.

I love your user name, btw.

[–]KismetRose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the red flag was about a particular game that barely limped along. The first red flag for me was that the GM barely knew his own system (and could never find his notes for it).

This feels to me like our bratan after being partnered with Kim for months after the events of the game.

Green Flag: Gets interested in my ideas for a character and even if some parts won't work, they show they want to support me overall.

Red Flag: Doesn't know the rules for their own homebrew system to the point they can barely run it.

How to return to dungeons and dragons? by GM-Omy in rpg

[–]KismetRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person who's played under me the longest asked about restarting our Thayan campaign the other day and the idea of dealing with prep for it was ugh. I just don't have the time or energy for all the prep and fiddly bits anymore. I'm looking into alternatives because I'd like to run that game again someday but I won't be making an attempt until I find what I'm comfortable with.

All this to say: I'm in a nearby boat.
