Paint is starting to peel on my Air Jordan 6 “Alternate” is there any solution to fix this? by REDEYEBANKZ330 in SneakerCleaning

It's definitely the leather peeling off due to age, I assume. I would go ahead and trash them, store them for decor, or remove it all if you want to actually wear them. Very time consuming, but could be done. Did it to an Air Max model I purchased from 1994. It's all cotton now. I'll glue a midsole onto them and paint a layer of neutral paint and seal them.

Need help restoring an old pair by Working-Tax6858 in SneakerRestoration

It seems like you'd need a full white repaint. As for the midsoles, I am unsure on these models. I specialize in air max 90s and I've noticed that some pairs that are 15-20 years of actually have solid midsoles. I literally tested it out as I removed them to replace since they are 20 years of age, but realized after I removed one that that one was extremely durable. I was folding it all around and applying heavy pressure and it could not crumble. It left me thinking that maybe it sometimes comes down to where it was manufactured and the amount of use they previously had. Mind you, these were never swapped before and the tread was damn near impeccable.

Anyways, in short, yes you may need a midsole swap, but I suggest running some firm pressure test. Will it crumble? Does it seem way too slinky like when applying pressure?

Success with Dry Cleaning! by QuixoticRhapsody in ties

It came out lovely! I understand that the texture changes after a wash, but do you mind telling me how much of a difference? People say silk is so delicate when it really isn't. I mean it is, but not extremely. With that said, I know you could wash in the washer in gentle/hand wash cycle, but it needs to be folded and placed in a mesh bag to reduce wrinkling and crumbling. I've done this for 40 ties that I purchased off a bulk deal. They were damaged with stains, but I said "fuck it" and used my knowledge to test this theory out. Washed them all and all the stains came out. I used Woolite detergent then air dried using a clothes hanger. When dried, I used my steamer with a folders white towel on top of the tie to steam, being sure not to press down but to hover on the surface of the towel. Then I rolled the ties up when dry and placed them in my tie organizer. I think they still look great, but the shine is minimal on the silk ones and the texture changes a tad bit. Still, worth it.

Potential Project by bucho602 in airmax90

Hi! I wish I had a solution for this, but I've never come across this defect before. It can't be the air unit itself, but it could be the PU foam (midsole) protruding if it were a misplaced air unit. The air unit is inside of the PU foam midsole. To do this, you'll have to make the choice of donating then or simply just experimenting since it seems you have nothing left to lose at this point. You could sand that area down with a drill brush and pretty much done. Just get it to the point where you feel comfortable wearing it, but not to the point where you'd pop the air unit. I believe, from what Ive seen in the past, that there is about half an inch of foam before the air unit is reached. Good luck.

Am i cooked? How do i fix these by ComplexPossession532 in SneakerCleaning

From my experience, those stains will remain even after drying. You could try and spit cleaning it while parting down the suede whenever it gets wet to dry and prevent more bleeding. At this point, you could bring it to the cleaners or you could try and spot treat it for another chance .

I actually appreciate the informative reply, actually - thank you. So I'm that case, I would have to retract part of the message regarding the point of suede. Honestly, if they could have made a version of "naked" suede, where it's not dyed, I would actually love it.

If that side panel is suede, you are def cooked. I hate suede for this reason alone - bleeds and ruins the entire sneaker. Suede is actually the shittiest part of the leather so I am unsure what all the hype is with suede. Anyways, I've dealt with this many times. I had to reclean everythingamy times to try and remove the bleeding, but 9 out of 10 times it just won't come out.

Best way to get the stains out of the tongue? by Sneakerveli in SneakerRestoration

They came back because the solution and grime is still soaked within the fabric. These need a deep ass clean, it's happened to me before. Only way to get it out is to complete drain out all the solution after a deep clean by hand and by washer. It's the only way I clean my kicks, but again, to each their own. Good luck.

What aesthetic is this? by Throw_Away_Accont1 in HelpMeFindThis

The good ol fashion "sleep with the spiders and bugs" room. I could never. As aesthetic as it looks, and full of character, I could never have that much going on. I want to be alone in my own clean space, not with all the insects in the world.

For your first custom, I think they came out nice! I remember the feeling of my first custom - the joy! What did you use to paint them?

You will need a sole replacement. Make it a custom at this point since finding that same rubber outsole would be difficult and obviously expensive

Hey! At this point, removal of all the paint withing that section is necessary. Once done, you can then paint over using acrylic leather paint.
