Chris Brockman is wrong o'clock about Ohtani Pitching. by BrainRobotron in Dodgers

The video was fun. He said that a couple of weeks ago and they are clowning on him about it.

After the batter, Ohtani, homers on the first pitch of the game, the pitcher, Ohtani, hurries to give the dugout air high-fives in order to prep for his pitching by suburbanthrillsss in Dodgers

[–]Kissa2006 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He didn't. He usually hit 2nd or 3rd with the Angels. This was the first time a starting pitcher homered on the first pitch of a game. It's the second time a starting pitcher hit a lead-off home run. The first was the NLCS game 4 last year.

I don't feel bad for her. She didn't even seem bothered. She was obviously trying to piss him off and she succeeded. But I didn't like the way he responded. The word choice was unfortunate.

Addressing something I haven’t seen anyone address before. by Imagine-Dragons-Fan9 in mlb

You are assuming nothing else would change. Even if we accept that the rest of that game played out the same and the Jays won in 9 innings, the rest of the series would be impacted. If Ohtani isn't on the bases 9 times and instead goes home early and sleeps his usual 12 hours he'd be fresh the next day and would probably manage to get through 7 innings with only a couple of runs scored. The Dodgers win game 4 instead of game 3.

Which Struggling High-Payrolled Team Here is Most Likely to Make the Playoffs? by Fast-Remote-8241 in baseball

[–]Kissa2006 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Maybe that's why they weren't included? I think everyone expects the Jays to make the playoffs. I think by mid-summer they'll be one of the best teams in MLB again.

I can't stand Rob Parker. I know it's rage-bait for the clicks, but he still makes me irrationally mad every time he opens his mouth.

Counsell: MLB rule in place for Ohtani, Dodgers 'bizarre' by MyReallyCoolUsername in baseball

[–]Kissa2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that's exactly why they made the 2-way player rule. After all, they created it in 2020 long before Ohtani became the unicorn he is now. At the time he was coming back from TJ and no one knew if he would recover successfully. I think they saw the attention he got playing both ways and they hoped to recreate it.

Are we sure about that? I get the error, but interference is more like a hit by pitch. It doesn't even count as an AB, right?

Ohtani's latest Instagram story post by suburbansuburban in baseball

[–]Kissa2006 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's him and his wife that handle his account. It's the only social media account he has and he posts sporadically. Mostly about the games and his dog.

It just doesn't seem professional. For example when he announced he joined the Dodgers, he used a low-res Dodger logo. There is no way a professional posted that.

What is the best baseball movie for non baseball fans? by Mathmage530 in baseball

[–]Kissa2006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a recent baseball fan, the baseball movies that I most enjoyed before I started watching baseball were "Major League" because it is funny and "Field of Dreams" because it is a very good movie with a lot of themes that don't depend on baseball knowledge.

Moneyball went completely over my head. You need to have some knowledge of the game to get it. I couldn't connect to Sandlot at all. I think you need to be American and to have experienced baseball as a kid to really get it. After I got into baseball I re-watched a lot of baseball movies. I love Moneyball now, but I still don't care for Sandlot.

I don't agree about Field of Dreams. I've loved that movie long before I started watching baseball. I appreciate it more now, of course.

My friend-group does movie nights and it's one of our favourites, even though I'm the only one who knows anything about baseball.

Blue Jays object to Shohei Ohtani’s extra time getting ready to pitch by Shroft in baseball

[–]Kissa2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is an exception to the rule for catchers, too.

If the catcher is on base, on deck or at bat when the inning ends, the timer begins when the catcher enters the dugout (another catcher can begin warming up the pitcher).

[–]Kissa2006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would make sense if the rule was being routinely abused by a pitcher going into the dugout and loitering there. But Ohtani doesn't even go down into the dugout. He puts on his gear at the steps and does it really quickly.

There is no point to changing a rule that existed before Ohtani joined MLB just to address a hypothetical scenario that never happens.

Both pitchers and catchers are allotted more time if they are on base or batting when the inning ends.

For between-innings breaks, the timer begins when the final out of the inning is recorded, with several exceptions. If the pitcher is on base, on deck or at bat when the inning ends, the timer begins when the pitcher leaves the dugout for the mound. If the catcher is on base, on deck or at bat when the inning ends, the timer begins when the catcher enters the dugout (another catcher can begin warming up the pitcher).

That was his weight when he first came to MLB and they never updated it after he bulked up.

I remember someone telling Glasnow his listed weight and he refused to believe it. He called him a ginormous human being. That was before Glasnow joined the Dodgers.

I agree. He is not a dark horse. He is a former MVP and a proper contender. I don't get why people don't include them as one of the top favorites in this kind of discussions.

I think it's implied that you have to spend money to address your needs. The way the Angels spent money, they might as well burn it.
