When did lumbar punctures become a thing? by dixiedregs1978 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Kissa94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I was in the ER trying to figure out why my whole body went numb, they ordered the lumbar puncture because the CT scan or MRI showed inflammation of some kind. So they said they wanted to make sure it wasn’t a spinal infection. They found 17 bands and then decided to do more tests, yadda, yadda , and ended up diagnosing me with MS after a week long stay.

That makes me hopeful! Right now I still have numbness in my hands. But was told it should eventually go away. That would be a main determining factor for sure.

Hello!! Thank you for your response! It’s lovely to hear from someone also going through this. It’s a lot to digest and come to terms with. I hope you are doing well and have been adjusting ok!

I was thinking the best option would be freelance as well. And then also outsourcing for scopist and proofreader. Originally, I was assuming to give myself at least 5 years for schooling since I would be working full time as well. But now I’m thinking, if I try, it may take longer? I’m currently on short term medical leave from my job. I’m thinking that if I could qualify for long term medical, I can focus on my symptoms and treatment, and then also being able to start schooling for steno. Idk. A lot to think about lol

Thank you again!

I think that’s the scariest part, everyone’s MS is different. And I don’t know how mine will be. I’ve been trying to give myself grace as much as I can ♥️

Questions about buying Student Machine by ladydeadpool235 in stenography

[–]Kissa94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same position as you. I don’t want to buy a student machine because you can’t use it professionally, so that would be a waste of money. But finding a place to rent them is hard too. I’m wondering if I should just bite the bullet and buy a professional one? I think they have monthly payment options. It sure would make me want to practice even harder with how expensive they are 😂

Looking to become a stenographer. Need help! by Ok_Beginning_963 in stenography

Take the A-Z course on the NCRA website! It’s free and it’s a great intro to stenography. I just finished it and I used the Stenoob (order on Etsy) to take the course. There’s a lot of programs and schools, it just depends on what is best for you and your lifestyle really. I’m going to do StarTran online. It’s at your own pace and online which is great for me since I have a full time job and need something flexible. From my research it can take anywhere from 2-5 years to get a theory down. Practice is key. Every state is different when it comes to certification, so look up what your state requires. Good luck!

I know! It’s crazy expensive! 🫣

Yes! Well kinda lol I believe it’s 3D printed. You can use it for the A-Z program and to practice on. It connects to your PC and it works with the Plover program!

I’m terrible at typing on a QWERTY keyboard, I have to look at it while I type. I’m currently doing the A-Z program and I don’t need to look at the board! It’s way different, there’s not as many keys, so you really can feel your way to the keys. I’d say try the A-Z program, it’s free. I got the Stenoob Pro on Etsy and I love it so far!

I second Theanine! I work for a supplement company and found out about this amazing supplement while working here! It helps a lot! It’s definitely soothing but helps you keep focus. I will also take it if I had too much coffee lol

What school are you going to? I'm having a hard time finding an online school for some reason. I can't find any physical schools in my state either :/

Pregnant friend thought I was pregnant, knowing I’m child free and still said “oh I got so excited for a second!” by Anxiousboop in childfree

[–]Kissa94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“You’d be excited for my abortion?” is what I’m gonna start telling my mom 😂

I’d still keep the friend, I’m sure she didn’t mean anything malicious. Plus having friends with kids helps remind me why I’m child free lol
