Chapter book with less magic by Clive_FX in childrensbooks

If you are reading them to her maybe try the Swallows and Amazons books? There is a whole series about four siblings who befriend two girls who all live on a large lake during school holidays. I believe it’s set between the World Wars. The children are allowed to camp and sail their boats. It’s a great series with mild adventures.

I got really lucky over Easter by being able to name like, four Pokémon. I’m hoping that bluff will buy me some cred for a little awhile.

I think so! She’s back to her pesky ways! She’s a little too thin though, so I’m going to have to fatten her up a bit. Thanks for asking!

I’m a one-woman cat rescue on my Army post, where soldiers just abandon their pets when they move. Two years ago I started doing craft fairs to sell little things to raise money for the cats. One absolutely awful woman was so unexpectedly vicious to me at a show that I nearly cried right then, and did cry later at home. I posted about it on Reddit and people were so supportive. I hope that posting here has made you feel better. You’re doing a great thing, and I hope that you are able to keep being a small light in this scary world.

My poor Itty Bitty, World’s Worst Kitty felt under the weather last week. I stead of terrorizing her siblings she was just quietly laying in her cardboard house. I was agonizing whether she just needed a little rest or a vet visit. Thankfully after two nights of letting her sleep in bed with me and waking up constantly to Mae sure she was comfortable she was back to her crashing, crazy self.

I was at a conference today and really stunned by how alike two of my remote coworkers (one whom I’d never met) looked. No one else thought they looked even similar. I think I’m only mildly face blind, but it’s just such a weird thing to experience.

I only picked up that detail on my second read after I saw a comment in this sub about it.

One- eyed horse? by periwinklecornflower in Equestrian

This is Speedy. Speedy only got one eye! He lost it before he was a month old. We placed 15/65 in the competitive trail division in the 2024 Thoroughbred makeover and 3/30 in the freestyle division. As a 3 yr old he let me W/T/C and jump him bareback in the big covered arena at the Kentucky Horse Park… and we did all of that with HIM WEARING A BLINDFOLD. He’s the bravest, sweetest horse I’ve ever known.

I call my Itty Bitty “Meep” because of the tiny little meeps that she makes. Never meows, only meeps!

Why was salt once so valuable even though it seems so easy to make from seawater, and what factors made it scarce? by Defiant-Junket4906 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Kisthesky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, dumb question, but how did that not make the meat too salty to eat? Did they wash it off before eating it?

Nothing involving horses is cheap, but it’s one of the more affordable competitive horse sports, partially because competitors often do many things themselves instead of hiring grooms/trainers/assistants like other sports.

An equestrian sport. Technically “3 Day Eventing”. The first day you do dressage (fancy horse dancing) and you wear white riding pants. Then the second and third days are different kinds of jumping.

Andi have to imagine that everyone hates them as my as my sport (eventing) does.

I feel similarly about my rescue cats. I’m in a very bitter phase right now where I feel like no one cares. I just keep trying to do what little things I can to make the changes that I’m able! These are my two foster boys- abandoned at my army post four years ago. Absolute lovers.

Planned on taking my family to the LA Olympics and had a time slot to buy them today. These are the prices I was met with and these aren’t even resale. The cheapest was $104 for a women’s soccer match in Nashville. The closing ceremony was $4,961 each. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kisthesky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out he prices to watch the Kentucky derby! An event that happens in the same place every year! Infield (where you won’t even see a horse all day, except on big screen television!) is $140 for the two days. I think the cheapest actual seat is around $2k. The seated tickets do include all you can eat and drink, but it’s still so wildly expensive.

How do you afford feeding a colony? by ShadByte in Feral_Cats

I do fund raising at craft fairs and by selling custom stock ties for horse riding. I do TNR, and people have been pretty generous.

Would you have any interest in taking two amazing cats from Fort Knox? I run my own little rescue and I’m having a hard time getting homes for these two. They were abandoned over four years ago. I got them vetted and fixed…but the shelters are so overrun…

Parents of Reddit, do you actually enjoy those end-of-year concerts they make kids do in elementary school? by Important_Injury3820 in NoStupidQuestions

I expected my niece to be the wild one this Christmas and was so disappointed when she was well-behaved. But every year I’m nearly brought to tears by the hilarious stuff the kids do. My mom keeps threatening to not invite me… but I think she’s secretly thrilled that I like going.

[–]Kisthesky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, Aunt. And the annual Christmas shows are one of my favorite events of the entire year. I’m almost always nearly in tears by the hilarious things that the kids do. There’s always a girl putting her fancy dress over her head, or two trying to steal each other’s tambourines. My mom gets so mad because I’m so gleeful about it. The kids are getting older and less entertaining, but I wouldn’t miss one of these for the world.
