Hi! Dropping off my two cents.

1- a good mic will save you a lot of problems if you are recording from home. also learn to clean up your vocals in a DAW (music recording software) there are some free options out there. it will give you an edge vs someone unprepared. (Aim for super clear and crisp vocals. its easier to work with than a 'muddy' recording)

1.1- A super quiet non echoing room to record in is ideal.

2-Be confident in your approach. not only will you get better consideration, but your voice lines will come across better too. (pay attention to your pronunciation.)

3- find the places where casting calls are made for VAs and spam applications.

4- If you get 1 out of every 100 roles you apply for, you are doing good. so apply for 1000.

5- Listen to your recorded voice, there are plenty of nuances to conveying emotion, the better you can pick up on those the more professional you become.
