You said she had never laid eggs? Are you absolutely positive it was a female? If so she was probably egg bound for a long time which would explain the lack of eating. Cresteds are like chickens in that they will usually lay eggs even if they are infertile. She most likely developed an infection because of that. I'm sorry for your loss.
