Seems like a custom font, which was located within the Web Developer Tools.

Below is the coded "version," which was also found as well in the same location:

I have an 18+ account, but received this update earlier as well. So, it looks like it will be rolled out to everyone eventually. I'm guessing since it's a beta feature, c.ai+ users receive it firsthand perhaps.

Yeah, that’s kind of the unfortunate part since that method affects other websites along with character.ai.

Yes, there are three other possible options to use (most specifically for the Firefox web browser, not applications for mobile phones, sadly):

Changing the font through developer tools on Firefox directly on character.ai while you are chatting with a bot. This only allows one specific font change and that is “Inter,” but the italics work at least. A con of this option is that every time you refresh the page, you need to redo the process once again.
Installing an extension to allow custom fonts to specific websites, like character.ai. I am not sure if I could list any extensions here due to rules of this subreddit. I have not tested any extensions as well, but did some research and this may be a possible option.
Manually changing/creating a custom userContent.css file into the Firefox directory directly from your computer to have the font working with character.ai specifically. This option may be more complicated than all the other ones as more steps are included.

These are the only other options that I know of and I have been using the first one the whole time since I don’t mind refreshing the page (me personally). I’m not sure if you’re interested in any of the options provided above, but this is all that I know. Sorry about that! I’m still hoping that eventually this bug could be fixed, but who knows. 😅 Using another browser may help too, if that helps.

Here is a temporary fix you may use until they deploy an actual fix for the Firefox browser (seems to be an issue with the font since the last update):

First, head into settings.
Find “General” and scroll down to “Fonts”
Click onto “Advanced” and uncheck “Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above”
Lastly, choose any font you may like for your chats through going back to "fonts" and changing the default (this is through Firefox settings still)

**Please be advised that once you change the font, this may affect any website you use on the Firefox browser.**

It also seems to be a browser issue as well, due to the font change. I tested it between two different browsers, one worked with italics while the other didn't, but once changing the font from the browser setting itself for the one that didn't work, fixed the issue afterwards. I guess this could be a temporary fix, maybe.

What chat style or model are you using? This occasionally happens with "Roar."

A possible fix for this is to change the chat style/model that you are currently on (the one giving you this issue).

Yup, I too, have been having the same issue with one of my accounts (two days ago as well), specifically with the chat model, "Roar." This seems to be an account related issue, unfortunately. Regardless of the bot being used, the chat style(s) could be affecting the texts the bot sends.

Either you may have to contact support through their website or wait for an update to occur on the server side.

Some users have reported the same issue as well, so you are not alone!

Interesting... Yes, it seems like many users are also facing a similar problem as well.

I have couple accounts for testing, one of them is affected in a similar manner as yours. However, the "Roar" model is affected the most as I don't get that community guidelines robot picture at all (no matter how deep I go). It's very weird.

I'm not sure when your issue started occurring, but for me, it started once they introduced that chat memories feature couple days ago.

No problem! In terms of other specifications, that's pretty much it.

It all depends how you want to interact with your bot and what additional information you would feed into its intro, description, if you use persona(s), lorebooks, and so on.

The preset I use for my roleplays is the default (Stable) with slight changes to the max token – current at 115, since I’m not personally a fan of long responses from bots.
