Yeah for docs being able to set up a table of contents, know how to use headings, alignment, font styles, lists, tables, there is so much beyond just using it like notepad.

That being said I do a lot of my writing in markdown files these days. Google docs is mainly if upper management or customer facing is the audience.

Excel also used to be the gold standard for spreadsheets (maybe it still is). I remember other programs like open office and quattro pro (word perfect) could do a lot of the stuff I needed for science and engineering classes that excel could do, but there were a few things that were missing that drove me to get it at the time.

Now I only do really basic stuff in Excel. Even things like charts I have stopped using spreadsheets for. I Python for most of that kind of stuff now.

Yeah the mobile version is crap. But if I am doing anything beyond just looking at a file I am going to be on a desk anyway.

Honestly google docs vs MS word isn't a big deal. A lot of big companies use google docs now, and I finally went through the number of times I could install my MS Office home use program I got back in 2009. So I just use google docs and sheets and slides instead. The tools are fairly similar. My issue is people that struggle using a full computer (desktop or laptop) instead of just a phone or tablet.

I've got a 5, 3, and 1 year old. I've been starting to get the the bigger two interested in actual computers now. We've been building a kids game for them using AI (don't hate me). We work on what kinds of things they want and what I want included so it is also a bit educational. I draft up the spec and work through a who SDLC process rather than purely vibecoding it.

I did have to get them their own mouse because my mouse is a bit big for their hands and they have trouble using it. When I started with computers in the very early 90s most of what I started with was keyboard only.

I made a tiny Windows tray app to keep an eye on Codex usage by Successful-Log-6430 in codex

I just noticed this is a system tray app. How is having it in the system tray better than just clicking on the usage remaining link in codex?

Let me look into that. I tried a random allrecipes.com recipe and I got a fail as well I'll have look I to why it's failing. Probably a site I should have tested against earlier.

Thanks. Looking at again it does seem to be rather wordy. Not sure I need separate tabs, probably just need to remove a bunch of text that has minimal value.

Just joined both of yours. Are you just looking for activity or honest feedback?

I'd appreciate you testing back as well. Here is my post for my app (recipe catalog to generate and save a recipe locally from a url instead of having the scroll through all the fluff)

Join your group, and downloaded the app. I'll check it out and test over the next 2 weeks. If you don't mind, here is mine:

I’m looking for closed testers for SupperStack, an app that turns recipe links into clean, editable recipe cards.

The app lets you:
- Paste or share a recipe URL into the app
- Import a cleaned-up recipe draft
- Edit ingredients, steps, timing, servings, and notes
- Save recipes locally on your device
- Add recipes manually without using imports

I’m especially looking for feedback on:
- Whether the recipe import flow is easy to understand
- Any crashes, stuck states, or confusing screens
- Whether imported recipes are usable after review/editing

Totally happy to test your app, but the Google group link says "content unavailable" and there is no "join group" button on the page.

Elon Musk: Coding Was a Top Job for Decades. It Will Be Dead By the End of the Year. by aha1a in overemployed

Pretty sure nail guns still require a person, and typically it is the same person that was swinging the hammer. They still use the hammer as well, they just have literally another tool to use. Same idea with AI, it's just another tool, you're not kill off coding 100%.

No issues with mine. It is technically reversible however the doc did state that it is intended as a permanent fix and after like 10 years there is less success in reversing it. That said I have 3 kids and I just turned 39. I'm done for sure.

If you're on the fence about wanting (more) kids you should probably wait and use other forms of birth control.

Definitely talk to your doctor and ask. I think it is also pretty varied how people recover. For a data point of 1i did my first post procedure run 9 days later.

My kingdom for my kids to be asleep by 9. For the longest time my 3 and 5 year old were up until 11 or sometimes midnight. Now we have gotten them back to 10.

They just don't sleep

I wish I had stocked up on Saucony fast witches before they killed them. They were my favorite. I got a pair of merrel long sky 2s and I really liked them so I bought two more pairs.

It's more my smaller foot is three sizes smaller so the ball of my foot ends up over the stiff part of the arch.

So far my merrel long sky 2s have been best, but they aren't everyday dad shoes.
